LIVE GAME Round 10 v Storm

Live Game Discussion
I've praised Benji this year but he got a fair bit wrong yesterday. He has to take some responsibility for the players attitude yesterday. There was a bit of spoon bowl 2024 about it.

The selection of Staines at centre has to go down as one of the worst calls in the history of the Tigers. Bird had to play.

I don’t see it that way. We are more competitive than yesterday’s performance. That was not the same competitive team we saw in previous games this year. That looked like a team expecting to lose before the whistle.
If you’re right then we can expect more blowouts on the scoreboard, especially in rounds 21, 22, 24?
I don't disagree that we are better than what we showed, absolutely. I said that it was our worst performance this season, but nonetheless, we just lost 64-0 to the premiership favourites. that's how far away we are from the top. until we play them again, we won't know to what extent we've improved.

I don't know what the rest of the season will bring TF. the club's banking on significant improvement as the weeks roll on, but who knows? Sunday night is going to answer many of the questions we have about this team.

64-0 is atrocious don't get me wrong but it was one of those games where a few early moments showballed the result.

The lack of desperation to prevent Papz's 1st try from Naden in particular but also others set a tone. We then actually did well to give ourselves some redzone opportunities but our execution was poor.

Then play by play Melbourne's confidence got up and they had one of those days where 99% of things went right for them. When confidence is up, adrenaline is up, line speed is up, execution comes off ... it snowballs.

On the other hand, our mindset after these early moments was likely 'shit they are on today & we are off' which can reduce effort by 1%, make you play outside structure to catch up, heads drop and things don't come off ... it snowballs.

This is a mindset we have to change if we are ever going to challenge. We have to learn to get back into the grind, fight & scramble.

It is a mindset that the Bulldogs have changed both through coaching & roster management.

Api doesn’t usually talk a lot but in the post game presser he said a lot in just a few words.
“When you’re going good you’re never as good as you think you are”
“It’s about looking at our prep”
Benji needs to be better.
At the game yesterday watching both teams warm up we looked like a park footy team warming up. Storm were professional, had twice the staff. Their staff and their drills were high paced and we were fluffing around.

Benji vibes good with boys and getting them to play for him but I have seriously doubts on his actual coaching and game prep, along with selections and bench use.
We need more experienced assistants

For some reason, as soon as the Tigers play well, they ease off, and get high off their own farts. The idea of them stringing, say, four good and winning performances together like good teams is unthinkable.

They need to FINALLY put the egos aside and focus on process like the Storm. Every play should be expected to execute at a level you'd expect from a professional first grader - not sloppy, or almost there. That's what Bellamy expects from his players. He helps them achieve consistency, and he's not satisfied with winning if there are any lazy, complacent, contact-shy or self-satisfied plays. He knows that if bad habits are tolerated, they will increase.

This is so true in fact it's like a ground hog day how many times in the past have they put together some wins and the next week's prep involves players coming out in interviews thinking their (you know what) smells like roses.

Benji should ring Bellamy for some advice as to how he prepped last week to play us because it worked a treat.

Have to admit waking up this morning and the disappointment still lingering and to make it worse it's raining so I cannot go and fish the pain away.

Not hard to understand why we lost Blore and Utoikamanu. Fish, got to wonder how Tigers players react to the sight of a professional outfit preparing to donkey lick them? lol. after Benji has been talking up Storm all week.

Exactly. It was scary to watch. Storm warmed up for 15 mins at least before a couple of tigers players slowly walked out and kicked the ball around to each other.

How can the coaching staff not see this?

They all need to be better.- coach and players but you can only work with what you have got. That was a devastating loss but we still sit on 10 points and have beaten teams that we could match - those are the important wins when and if we are to improve
A red hot Melbourne on notice from coach Bellamy after a poor performance last week and with SOO of origin selections impending was a stretch for this squad.
They need to move on from it immediately and focus on what the positives are from where they are at in the season so far.

Yep, it was the Storm at their best versus us at our worst.
And while the officials were in no way to blame for the loss, geez the Storm can throw a forward pass.

This team has to learn fast that be top 4 contenders one day they have to train, warm up & exude being top 4 contenders. Someone mentioned a similar thing when we played the Broncos.

I thought we looked pretty relaxed pre game ( sorry, too relaxed) for a team about to climb Mt. Everest.
We were at least a metre behind on every key play, I hope the next time I see them live they offer much, much more.
Anyway, it’s a new day with a new game to prepare for, Wayne v Benji, interesting.
South’s will have their tails up and we are playing at Dearh Valley.
Any chance we can move to LO ???

Listening to the Wests Tigers Life coaches report with Adel Hage (a former coach & employee of the club) he mentioned post Brisbane game that the lack of staff that travelled compared to the amount of staff Brisbane had was a serious cause of concern. He mentions it's down to the financial limitations of the club & basically they can't afford to bring a whole heap of staff with them to interstate games.

Well I guess you have to cut your cloth to the size of your body. If our heads/hearts are in the right place then staff numbers don’t always matter.

I thought playing the storm in melbourne would be a good test for us to see where we are at.
They totally schooled us. On the field and in the coaches box. Maybe it was a hiding we needed.
We looked overawed from the get go. We were out enthused and overpowered. It really stood out
we really need to bolster our forward pack. Our backs lacked any urgency. Reality check and good for
some egos. Write it off like our F/A.

Be interesting to see how we respond to that.

Seeing Naden on the left wing and Staines at right centre was just bizarre to me. Weaken a weakened
area with weak links. Couldn't understand the switch.

Rubbing your own calf is never the same as having someone else do it for you. Was there tape?

I agree it's not a season defining loss
