Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

If we extend Koroisau, I don't blame Da Silva one bit for wanting out.

He's a talented kid and wants to be starting for a team, which I think in the next couple of years, he absolutely will be good enough to do so.

Expecting him to stay to sit on the bench / in reserves and be happy with it is delusional.
Why do you think if we sign Api it means TDS can't start in the next couple of years?

Api re-signing would be coming with a clear plan for the coming years for both him and TDS.

I Don't believe the accusations either, though there are people in the media claiming that there's more to it than what everyone knows. I'm sure other things may have happened and been said, I doubt that it could be deemed bullying though
The reality is even if it's an empty threat the club still would need to spend a fortune on lawyers to be ready for it.

Ok - I'd just seen Tartak's quote.

I find that very strange, Api staying doesn't mean TDS won't get more game time. Does TDS expect 80 minutes?

Spot on plus the negative publicity you know the journos would drum up. I'd love for the Tigers to go after Moses and Galvin over the accusations. I seriously doubt though in the long run it's worth it, every player involved would be distracted it could derail multiple seasons

BB, the club signed Luai, Hunt, Turuva, Bird and Skelton. Richardson advised there will be more to come to build on the earlier signings. The market is tight but some clubs have cap constraints so it is possible we can pick up good players who will be released. Piakura was one player mentioned who may be released. He imo is a far better signing than Hetherington. Hassett the other night was impressive and KPP has performed well in a poor Knight's team. Young Sukkar also from our juniors has performed well.
We released:
Bateman
Sullivan
Galvin
Klemmer
Olam (retired)
Miller

We pay a lot of freight for Bateman and Sullivan, but Olam and Klemmer were on sizable money. I estimate we have 1 million in space for this year.

We have to spend 95% of the cap, so I doubt we end up with 3 Q Cup players on 150k each.

Remembering that, at this stage in the season, there is only 5 months left to November 1. That means that a 1.2 million dollar player would only cost 500k on the cap.

Not saying we will sign one like that, but if you have to spend 95%, we won't be allowed to fill it up with nuffies. Surely something is coming.

We definitely aren’t going to be in a premiership window in the next 12 months. TDS isn’t worth losing to get an extra year out of Api. Api is the one who should be told to explore his options beyond 26.
I think it will be a massive hit to our credibility if we don't resigned the bloke who saw us through the spoons just when we're on the up. He's still the better player.

Hopefully richo can navigate this one.

What credibility lol ..

There is an old saying I’ve heard from one of the best coaches of any sport Bill Belichick …it’s better to let a guy go a year early than a year late …

What would that be?
Api is still playing well enough to be the dominant of the two. He is contracted until the end of 2026.
Surely there has been some level of talk over the past year with TDS that he is the future and likely our dominant no.9 option from 27 onwards? That still gives him a year and a half to bide his time and learn from Api.
Any extension to that timeline is sure to be met with angst and restless feet. As mentioned above by others, he could start at a few clubs right now. That list will grow by the end of 26. We may find we need to pay overs to keep him.

We cant say this when we dont know the content of this infamous dossier.
If he has kept a dated timeline of events, the club will be at a huge disadvantage to prove innocence.
If it was released to the public, the PR hit would be massive irrespective of how much truth is present.
Theres a reason theyve let him go and I dont believe they havent read and discussed at length these accusations.

He probably sees himself as a starting quality hooker in 2026, and that won’t happen while we have Api, certainly not next season and probably the one after. Rather than lose him altogether, why not consider a Harry Grant type scenario. Loan him to another club for a season to get him regular first grade time. I know it’s not that straightforward, but it’s also clearly not unprecedented. Harry benefited, Wests Tigers benefited and Melbourne benefited. We’ve also done it with Bud as well, albeit under different circumstances. Get creative Tigers.

I agree. He has played 21 games for us with another 12 possible this year as he hasnt been selected this weekend. Thats 33 + season 26 , he comes back to us in 2027 with 50+ first grade games under the belt plus some new ideas from a different coaching steup. Meanwhile, we can take the opportunity to start training his understudy next year for 27 onwards.

Grant had 1 game for Melbourne in 2018 and 1 in 2019. He was 3rd choice behind Cameron Smith and Brandon Smith.

Grant was also contracted for another 2 (maybe 3 years), so Melbourne let him play with us in 2020 and return for season 2021. Cam Smith announced his retirement at the start of 2021. This is very different from us where Api will probably extend for 2 more years.

I think we lose him in the end and bring Haywood along.

Yep, IMO if we extend Api, we'll lose TDS. This decision needs to be weighted against a lot of criteria.
Personally I dont think its worth losing Tallyn. Api could be absolutley spent by the end of 26
