Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Combined with the Magpies, I’ve supported this club since I was 10, and gone through emotions you couldn’t even imagine. I’ve earned the right to say what I want about this club, as has anyone else who has invested so much emotion and energy into it.
Pretty sure I can imagine … just like everyone else who supports the club. You’re right you do deserve your opinion , which is why I’d never ever compare you to Tucker ! Because he’s just a troll!
I’m just saying stop death riding the club . For your own sake as much as anyone else . We are 5 and 6 , 500. If we get the win!
I feel like there’s a lot of residue with you with Benji with how he left the 1st time .
Anyways! Just to be clear I don’t view you anything like Tucker . I’ve made it very clear what I think of him ..

Taylan is a no brainer for us if he ticks the boxes.

The fact that we're not in for him is 1 of 2 things IMO:
- They met him and he's an absolute head case who they believe will mess up again
- There is another centre we have signed already

If it's the former, it's strange that Wayne Bennett seems okay with him.
Maybe we are in for him . Maybe we offered him league minimum and he’s testing his value in the market place .
I thought it was very telling that his manager said “they’re one of 3 clubs”. That seemed very much the thing you say when you view them a backup option .
“Yea , I like her . She’s an option!” ….

Being honest isn’t deathriding. I’ve actually been more positive this year than in recent years. That doesn’t mean there aren’t things that piss you off. One of those things is how frustrating it is not having an established coach. Even if we have improved a little this year. It’s still weighing us down, whether people want to admit it or not.

We've had established coaches. It never made a difference. The issues at the club are deeper than that. Ownership and resources being the main two and they go hand in hand.

IMO, May was offered a base deal which included playing reserves for this year and top 30 2026. His reps decided they will test the market and will come back to WT once they know what others are offering. It will be up to us to then match it or step away. Typical negotiations in my book.

...and the second part of what I said?
Performing a lessons learned session is not always a happy excercise.
It depends if it was in our control or out of it.

Galvo was more receptive to influences other than us. They won his confidence and support and it spiralled out of our cotrol from there.

We have a lot of players coming through the club and the chances are a few will fall under the spell of others.

Its not just our issue. Latrell and the roosters, stalemate there.

If you have any lessons to be learned, im seriously open to be persuaded.

Otherwise, i see it as a more isolated event.

You don’t reckon 2 former head coaches as assistants isn’t reducing the load ? .
When you look at a lot of the teams staff there’s heaps of ex nrl players form not that long ago taking up assistant roles .
There’s not too many “served their time , and earnt a spot “ assistant coaches .
Guys like , Boyd corner , Ben Teo , heighno ,cayless , etc . As most people say , as a head coach the role has changed to man managing , and all the off field stuff .
The actual X and O is Morris and Hodgo . And I think they’re doing thier job.
My biggest stuff ups from Benji . Deciding to go for the softly softly approach last year . Which he acknowledges and looks to have fixed .
And going all in on a rat like Galvin . If caused soo much friction , and drama over the lat 2 years , for him to bad mouth him on his way out … I mean …. The second one is like the mate who’s dating a chick who’s cheating on him . It’s hard to not say I told you so … but you just feel bad for the guy , and how much effort he put in .

I love Benji, and I want him to succeed. But I just can’t help but think he’s got himself in too deep sometimes.

Didn’t like the coach. Like a handful of others that left. It’s becoming an elephant that’s getting hard to ignore.

I'm sure you're aware there are a number of reasons which the Tigers have struggled with for years

Yes the coach would be part of the problem but more so, his assistants.

And the playing roster?

And clubs future outlook?

When it comes to MH issues you don't just flick a switch and become a different person. It's an ongoing battle. Angus Chrichton took time away from the game and it's possible the Tigers feel Taylan is not ready yet to get back into the NRL grind. I trust Richo and Benji on this. I've been in a psych ward and it took me a couple years to get back into the right mindset.
Youre a bit of legend for sharing that experience. Respect.

I couldnt say with any certainty that myself or anyone i know wouldnt end up there given a set of circumstances.

The mind is a very complex beast.

Maybe …. But for many of us the best time to learn to swim is when you feel like you’re going to sink .
Is this Benji the finished product ? God no ! We just need him to be good enough to get these guys moving forward so he can learn , so in 3-5 years time we are benefitting from these hard times .
I look at the Raiders and I think they’ve really ridden the Ricky ride the whole way through , down the bottom - up the top etc. before him they had coaches , but it was burdened by mediocrity . They found thier guy “who just gets the raiders” , and have been stable since .
I don’t care if we win every year , because I really don’t think we are ever going to be that club . But 3-5 year window … regress to 9-12 for a year or 2 then surge again . That team … we definitely can be that team .
But we need a stabilising force someone who when you think tigers you think ….. that person . I’m hoping it’s Benji . Not because it’s Benji Marshall but because I think he really is starting to come out the other side . This week will be a good indicator into whether Galvin really was that fox in the hen house , or whether the guys have hit the mid season wall , and a return to the toothless tigers.
