Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

When Richardson advised KPP had been looked at for a year I felt the club was being far more strategic in recruitment than it had been in the past. The filling of vacant roster spots moving forward imo will be far more selective than it has been under the previous management.
Which makes me think that Kobe Hetherington is still an option as we were big into him in the pre-season before Madge stopped an early release.

Kobe was decent last year but he's fallen off a cliff this year. Lot of the Broncos forwards outside Carrigan and Haas are in the same boat.

Still believe we need a 80 minute lock. Does everything. Not sure who that is though.

Not many 80 minute locks around. Besides May and Koalamatangi, there aren’t any middles who play those kinds of minutes.

IMO an important spot we may need to recruit for to add to our squad next season is a back-up halfback if Luai & Latu are our 1st choice pairing & Bud is moved on to get most of his $500+k off our books.

Ideally a game-managing halfback to play primarily NSW Cup.

I think O'Sullivan will want too much $$$.

This is where the talk of a Jonah Glover may be viable plus he's a good goalkicker. We have Kurt Falls but his defence is nowhere near NRL standard. Out of Jersey Flegg next season is Max Liles but I think he's too raw at this stage to be an NRL backup.

Any other options?
Alex Conti ?
Only young, but looks up to the task.

80 minute locks are as rare as hen's teeth.

Kobe may not be suited to Madge's style of play. He has been running a lot of decoys and one of the highest in the NRL for players-in-support so hasn't been getting the ball as a middle much in the Hass / Carrigan system.

He is an all-effort player in defence and probably best as an effort & energy player in attack after 20 mins like last year when he made the PMXIII.

On the official WT website yhe following playersvin the top 30 are named as locks

Bird
Matamu
EL-Zakhem
Murray
Kit Laulilii

Only Bird is a constant top 17 player and rarely plays lock.

Why doesnt the club hire a former Lock forward to work with these players so we can properly develop them.

Hunt should have people around him to lose weight and gain fitness. He is a professional athlete so he should do everything to be in best shape.

It worries me over the years of the support network WT has to turn juniors into very good career NRL players.

Given 2 new teams are joining the talent is going to be spread more thinly. Not a fan of expansion as we do not have enough quality to go around.
Yea, what's with this?

Our team list has often listed a bunch of players at Prop or Lock with 1-2 sometimes 3 as Second row. I mean Kit + Murray + El-z can't all play lock at the lower grade. it's weird.

I was of the same view that we needed to fill spots by 30th June but have been assured that as long as we have had 30 in our squad some time during the season that we do not need to sign players to those positions that are now vacant if we do not wish to.

So players like Klemmer, Olam and Galvin can still be counted towards our top 30 for the purpose of becoming cap compliant.
Assured by who hank, from within the club or NRL.

At the risk of starting up a shit fight, I will just say that those Magpies should also be Wests Tigers.
Can I shut down the shit fight?

Were a merged club. Magpies as much Tigers for good and bad.
Ill say Get over it to you as I will to the board members wanting to stir this stuff back up.

Ill give Pascoe/Lee credit for one thing, this Magpie vs Tiger stuff was shutdown under them. Richo won't take it either and I hope Barry Ofarrell doesn't either.

Speaking of Metcalf, if he goes on to win the Dally M, that would surely be the record for least amount of games played to win that award. Only 39 games. Makes the radio silence even more crazy.
39 at the moment. Would be about 50 by the end of the regular season. Greg Alexander did it in his second year with 48 games I believe.

No neither of those, have just taken the word of a couple of our forum members who have passed on that information and seemed to know what they were talking about.

Like you, I had been concerned about it until quite recently and was worried we were leaving our run a little bit late, but being realistic, it's hard to imagine that a seasoned campaigner like Richo would get caught out by something like this.

I would imagine that if we were in danger of failing to be cap compliant this close to the 30th June that someone in the media would have written a dooms day article about it by now, I mean, they don't seem to miss any opportunity to shit can the Wests Tigers.

Crazy. And he’s 26. Usually I’d say he’s only got a 4 or 5 years, but Cody Walker only started being a regular first grader at that age, and he’s still going nearly 10 years and 200 games later.
Starting late can be an advantage because you have less wear and tear on your body. Modern sports science is allowing athletes who really take their health seriously to extend their careers into their lates 30s.
