Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

TDS to Bulldogs. Not the place I'd expect him to succeed. His strength is his running from dummy half with momentum. Bulldogs forwards are more tradesmen than powerhouses. Mahoney is crafty. TDS is not. I'm not sure I see that working.

As for wanting forwards that create opportunities- it has to be Fifita. The most damaging, impactful forward that is potentially available & instant upgrade in attack from #13 or #12/#11.

Personally, I'd have him at #13 & let him run. People accuse him of being switched off etc- it's not like he's bludged his way through his career. His career numbers far outweigh anything we put on the field through the back row.

Sloan- again, he has a certain amount of young JAC to him. JAC wasn't a very good defender either for a large chunk of his career. Sloan averages between mid 70% to early 80% effectiveness. There are worse. Skelton, for example, is worse. What Sloan brings in attack can outweigh what he gives up in defence. You put him between a good defensive winger (May) & a good defensive half/5/8 (Latu or Luai) and add in KPP or Sam Fainu...he just has to be adequate. We have watched our team lack that dangerous attacking edge all season. Sloan & May would offer massive danger on one side to any opposition. If you hate Sloan at centre- move him to wing & play May at centre instead.

Fifita...Sloan...Taylan May....Latu Fainu....KPP....that's a lot of additional athletic ability.

did you not watch the dragons sharks game? Sloan had an absolute blunder. Didn’t catch one high ball & got in Gutho’s way when he was trying to catch one that led to a sharks try. Stainsey and Douehi bathed him when we versed dragons.

Sweet.

I actually never realised you get judged off one performance.

I mean, it's not like the guy has played 70 1st grade games by 23 years old & scored 39 tries in that time....

I realise he has some inconsistancies in his game. We literally have watched Turuva & Skelton dropping bombs, getting outjumped & being scored on & nobody blinks.

Why is Sloan different?

The guy has the ability to split teams open. Even in one of the most boring teams to watch in the NRL, he has the ability to turn things around on his own. How many of those guys play at Wests Tigers?

For lower end Salaries I'd definitely retain Staines and Douehi. I think they're ideal depth signings. I wouldn't want them in our strongest 17 but very good experienced injury cover
Doueihi signing with Moses is probably an indication of where that is going.

A shame- I really like Doueihi. But the club would be well served keeping Moses out of it's walls.

I’ve watched him since he was a junior I’m not basing it off one game , the kid has all the talent in the world but has zero footy iq.

Which game has be split a team open? lol

Has he kept his fitness and skills up, or has it all been drugs and sex in there?

I struggle to fathom people discussing a contract for a bloke who hasn't even been down the Shops in 6 years - Let alone on a Football Field - Which would still be a million years from Playing NRL.
Will it be 7/8 Years by the time he's out?

He only had 30 odd games (mostly off the Bench) behind him when he was about the game.
I don't see it.
If we're so concerned about keeping the Fainus happy, Give their parents a job.
leave the Football to the Footballers.

Because for some odd reason a lot of people are obsessed with having all the brothers here.. It’s why they were hammering Tyrone May. That was just stupid. The last thing this team needs is another reserve grader.

Benji makes no secret how much he loves Api…. I’ve heard him say several times that he is the best player in the side …maybe TDS feels he won’t get a fair go … I mean that might not necessarily be the case but thats he way he feels? He knows better than us though , so I guess he will make the call that he believes is best for him

I also suspect money is an issue as well….if he goes and becomes the No 1 somewhere else , he is going to earn more money than being the No 2 here ..
All plausible, Tommo.

Then start listening to the legitimate points posters are making about the plausible nature of that situation.

If you 'struggle to fathom' someone else's perspective on a matter, particularly when that perspective is at the very least plausible, then you have work to do on your ability to hold conversations with fellow adults.

Alternatively, you can just state that it's not that you 'can't fathom' an alternate perspective, but simply that you don't agree.

And that's ok, you don't have to agree.

But people have every right to discuss the possibilities or plausibility of a future outcome occurring.

Whether you can see it or not.

I've yet to see anybody say it will or is even likely to happen. But there are a series of circumstances around that situation that make it possible and people discussing that, particularly in this thread, seems, at least to me, to be perfectly ok.

How much better do the Eels look when Dylan Walker plays lock or when Bailey Hayward or Kurt Mann play lock. Is it coincidence the Knights form has turned around since Crossland went to lock? What about Kurt Donoghue at the Dolphins and their form in recent weeks? And us when Latu has gone there?

The modern day lock forward - solidly built halves who have that defensive steel & mongrel in them.

They open up the attack as first receiver allowing either half to play wider & deeper. Often don't need to do many carries with wingers & centres being used for yardage. However when they do, they offer something nippy with their leg speed. They add line speed to the defence too and most put in big effort plays in D.

I can understand the thought process for Latu as a lock but now if it's not going to be him, why do we not try Jack Bird as primary lock? Or is there someone else out there who fits this profile who is off contract or may want out?
