Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I did wonder about this. He’s been shooting the lights out apparently and has played first grade before for Souths. I wonder if he’s a direct swap for Skelton or will go on the other wing with Turuva going to fullback.
Turuva's defence worries me. Runs in fast only only to be stepped around, and miss them.
Attack OK----defence poor. Coming out of own territory hit ups, ordinary only.
On current form, overrated IMO.
Either of our current wingers could be replaced by Izaac Tu'itupou at the moment.

Yeah but who, there is only currently a handful of them in the entire NRL.
Given our pack is quite weak I’d be happy with a lock that can win the collision in attack and defence and play bigger minutes. As opposed to a “ball player”. Let Luai and Latu play both sides of the field and pass to each other to get the ball wide as opposed to the lock to the split half (one on each side). If we needed a ball playing 13 we could always put Galvin, oh wait, TDS in there, sh!t….

Douehi honestly could do it, but he won’t 😂

Well, that's not quite true, is it?

Loaned Sullivan, released Galvin, Klemmer, Bateman, Papali'i & potentially Da Silva

Didn't re-sign Utoikamanu

Signed Hunt, Terrell May, Taylan May, Bird, Luai, Turuva, Skelton...

Not exactly as bad as is being pictured..
Not exactly as portrayed either as it was noted that what would Luai be thinking with all these NRL players leaving before he even got here ? Not the pack he was expecting
Tiny may has not been signed to the top 30 and ‘may not ever get there
Bird was a ‘depth’ signing only

When the top teams are missing 3/4 of their starting spine they lose too. Look at Penrith this year when they had players out
They lose, yes, but my point is they are not completely disjointed and their results are generally better.

Penrith had the best player in the comp out for half the season last year and still finished 2nd.

So we don't have to replace them ? But can we sign someone in their place ?
Does this affect our salary cap requirements ? Don't we have to spend 95% by June 30 ?
Klemmer alone was on 800k, then there's Sullivan, TDS .. am I missing anyone ? Where has all the money gone by releasing these guys .. confused anyone 🤔
Nrlw signings

Adam Elliot or Kobe Hetherington both off contract
Not bad options, but Elliott is ageing and has become extremely injury prone. He’d be worth the risk on a lowish contract value of no more than 300k.
I don’t mind Hetherington as a player, but for whatever reason he didn’t grab his opportunity when put into the Broncos starting line up for the first half of this season. It makes you wonder is he another player that is much better coming off the bench ?
He hasn’t shown much willingness to be a first receiver, playmaking style of 13, although I have seen him do it reasonably well on very rare occasions,

Good in theory, but our attack always looks so much better when we have a first receiver, ball playing style of 13 on the field.
Better attack generally leads to better field position and due to this there is generally less need for a 3rd bash and barge style of middle with our one out hit ups for 5 tackles.

could you see Douehi doing that ?

Mariner scored three tries at centre on the weekend for Burleigh. 135m from 8 runs too
Also check out his line breaks and tackle breaks over the past 3 weeks in Qld Cup.
That in combination with his metres made and tries scored etc makes it look like he’s been very dominant back in that grade.
Stats are not everything, but a very good pointer to find which players are being dominant and providing x-factor.
Players such as Kiraz, Preston, Tracey had similarly impressive stats for 18 months or in Tracey’s case much longer while playing NSW Cup before getting a regular NRL opportunity and as they say the rest is history.

yeah he’s out of favour with Madge i guess because of shibasiki , would be a great pick up for any club way too good for cup. Unfortunately under contract for another two years i believe though

Not really.
He’s big enough, strong enough and capable enough, but he doesn’t like front on collision or impact.
The players who put their bodies on the line digging into the line and prepared to take a whack to create for their team are extremely tough and not afraid of the collisions or front on impact.
