Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I'd agree that Broncos aren't exactly setting the world on fire but:
1. Sitting in 5th place despite being without their 1 and 6 for large chunks of the season.
2. Restructuring their roster to get some better value for money out of their backline.
3. Turning a career fringe first grader into an Origin centre.
4. Extending promising young players without needing to put them into first grade before they're ready.
Madge is doing fine. Not great, but fine.
they were really bad without their 1 & 6 for chunks of the season, kinda like our game on the weekend so that’s proving my point. they got them back and are playing really good now.
extending young players like moizer etc aren’t because of Madge imo; it’s the broncos they are an Australian sporting brand juggernaut- why wouldn’t you bide ur time vs 3 wooden spoon club.

Madge is a good coach but I think it takes a particular roster to buy in.

I remember speaking to Chee Kam about Madge a few years back when Chee Kam moved on to Souths.

He didn't really like Madge and felt he was too rigid and didn't really connect with the players. In terms of game planning and training everything was fine and they felt prepared but he wasn't open enough to what the players suggested.

All I’ll say is … this is what happens when you put clauses like this in contracts… it was probably envisaged by Luai that he would be able to use it as a way to get more money out of them as his contract went along … but now he can hold the club to ransom over who the coach is… it’s just as ridiculous as Stef deliberately playing poorly so he doesn’t get picked for Origin so he can leave the club ,.lol
the club had to though tom. they had no choice but to put the clauses in to get him, he’s won four premierships going to the team coming last for three years lol

I’m not disagreeing…. But he was paid a premium to come here as well…. They had to offer him more money than anybody else …. Anyway, he is here now and they are one win above last …

I do think there is a coaching problem, but I get what you are saying.

We ran out without a full team. We were really REALLY down 2 forwards at the start of the year.

It was scramble signings to make a team.

Now, we need to identify players who will build our forward pack. Guys like Pole and Seyfarth have really stood up, yet I would rather see Seyfarth play off the bench.

We were doing the right thing with recruitment. Our culture is still seeing players drop in performance, but not as far.

We really need to bring people in from outside the Tigers culture. People who can up the attitude. I was really hoping that Nathan Cayless was that person and he did not have the impact I was expecting.
I am disappointed in Pole's effort of late.
No running onto the ball. Standing flat footed and does a side step straight away to slow his momentum even further, then runs hard with players hanging off him. No impact.
Is it just me being too critical?
Benji, get him running onto the ball, then we have impact, and hopefully quick PTB's?
Beginning to think Benji needs better back up advice on what's not working and identify the weaknesses of the opposition sides. They seem to know our weaknesses, but then again, everyone does.

We've been really bad with our 1 and 6 so it's not really the same. Additionally you agree they are playing really good now is more proving my point that he is doing fine. Seems he is literally doing well with quality cattle.
Aside from that I'd agree with the rest of your response here. They aren't extending because of Madge but neither are they wanting to leave because of him. So again, he is doing fine.

they aren’t playing to their potential considering they have the most talented roster in the comp, but who really is this year

Broncos have won 1 from 5 without Rhys Walsh

We're in the 4th year of the coach putting this squad together.
Look at what Ryles has done in 1.

Harsh
- But that's the facts of it - There's no one here (Or gone) our coach didn't have say over.
😂

This line is a classic. People pretending that Benji in first week alongside Sheens and McDonnell thinking that he had deciding say over every single recruitment decision as if it wasn't heavily implied that he had a seat at the table rather than running the show.

Sheens, and later Richo's, line around Benji was that we won't hire anyone Benji doesn't want, it'll be the coach's side - or something close to that effect.

People acting like he's be Coach, Head of Recruitment and Head Talent Scout all in one 😂

Sheens and McDonnell would've be the senior members in those discussion, just as Richo is now. I'm sure Benji has a large say, but to act like it's a 'well, you've got these players here, so bad luck' is hilarious and again, as always, conveniently missing context.

Look at what Ryles has done in 1.

What has he done?

- They're below us on the table
- Are coming from a higher base
- Have more familiarity in their squad
- Is at a club with a better overall reputation from a recruitment standpoint; primarily due to results
- Is at a much richer club with greater football dept spending and resources

So, what exactly has he done?

Parra lost their captain, have been without their best player (whos the 2nd or 3rd best half in the game) and were equally as bad as us last year.

They're not really doing any worse than us and probably slightly better all things considered.

signed a tigers bench hooker for $650k to 2029

Luai's not walking anywhere unless the PNG team have a huge deal ready for him. He's not getting a better contract anywhere else.
If Brown can get 1.3 a season from the Knights Luai would have no problems jagging another deal on the coin he is currently on or more

There’s no evidence they have given up. With our top 17 we almost beat the Premiers and the team coming first. This last game we had the advantage in the forward pack but playing off the back of that was our most inexperienced spine combo since maybe 2014.
Next game will be hard but I’d expect to see much a better showing with an extra week.
I don't expect to win the next 2 games or games against Penrith, Canterbury and Canberra- hopefully we have our full squad back on deck by the Titans game. If this is the case and we can stay injury free i can see us with a big chance of winning 4 games plus the bye. If we can jag 1 win in the 5 games above that will give us an extra 12 points and finish on 26. Should get us somewhere between 10th and 12th

Again most talented roster in the comp is subjective in many ways. Firstly that is simply your opinion. I'd agree they are right up there but I dont think they are any more talented than say the Storm or Sharks.
Then was it still the most talented whilst Walsh was out, or whilst Mam was out?
Are they building into the season (eg. training loads, playing minutes for old/young players, combinations) in order to peak at the backend compared to other teams peaking to soon?
I certainly agree they could be doing much better. They could also be going much worse. They are going just fine.
