Yeah that’s the best way. They can win but it doesn’t mean they have to win well and Galvin can have a shit game, though the media will still somehow attribute the win to him 🙄 Hopefully he’ll get hooked at some stage so they can’t.
 
Ciraldo and Gus will get away with it if things don’t work out because the Bulldogs will successfully spin the narrative—they’ve got mouthpieces in the media. Gus has Channel 9 and Braith at Fox. 9 will never question it, and while Braith might, he also picks up the phone to Ciraldo, so he’s close to the situation either way.

It really comes down to how hard the rest of the media are willing to dig into them... And how vocal their fans get...

What I mean is, we as supporters won’t be watching Galvin like a hawk every week. It will carry on the rest of this season, and maybe into early next season. He’ll always be hated obviously, but the conversation will slow down.
 
Someone please tell me what I’m missing here with this bloke. I went in the Dogs forum and to my surprise most of the fans are actually very supportive of having Galvin in their team! There were also articles on there with Bulldogs players being quoted as saying that whilst they feel sorry for Sexton being dropped, the team needs to rally around Galvin, give him time and space and let him just play footy. Like WTH?

Why have two clubs now bent over backwards to accommodate this kid, doing everything they can to put him in first grade and allowing him to ‘just play footy’ blah, blah. We did it to the detriment of Luai’s game, now the Dogs are doing the exact same thing. I can understand us to an extent because we needed all troops on deck to spark our attack, but the Dogs were leading the comp and playing well. Why are they now cow-towing to this kids every whim?

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a young player being given so much hype and latitude by not only one, but by two clubs and the media, especially when they haven’t really produced all that much on the field. Has his family got lots of money or perhaps some dirt on high ups in the NRL? It’s the only reason I can think of why this kid is being treated like he was the King of England or something!

There's the possibility that those who coach and run the club believe he has shown a rare talent on the field and disagree with this forum's assessment of him.

Its what the media and club is telling them to think.. that it's been driven internally and that everyone's onboard..

They think Gus is King and Ciraldo is the Messiah, they can do no wrong... Until they do.. then watch the kennel blow up..

There is a lot of pressure on young Galvin this game,
You can imagine the criticism he will receive if the Dragons can win.
They talk about Team first mentality but I really wonder how Toby Sexton wants this game to go.
 
If you thought there was media hype now, wait till round 22...

There is more at stake for the tigers than dogs in terms of pride... I think our boys will really step up for this game...

I agree, I think it's a contributor but the run of losses is related to many other things.

I think we started the season decently because the players bought into the game plan, they were fresh and the new recruits were clicking.

Fast-forward 4 months and the wear-and-tear makes an impact, Terrell still doesn't have enough prop support and Fonua got injured, Skelton missed a bunch, Bula got hurt and Mason isn't up to it, Latu just came back from injury, Luai got called into Origin and Royce Hunt is dropped due to form.

Also, frankly, we started coming up against better sides in consecutive weeks, sides who are hitting their stride in the countdown to the Finals.

Removing Galvin from that setup is a contribution, and of course how could it not be, losing your starting half; but surely not a lone cause to the recent run of bad form.

I don't think these two things are connected via footy though. I think the disharmony he brought to the entire club is more of a factor than his playing ability.

What he did bring football-wise is the ability to execute a three-pass shift from our own half which quite often got us out of trouble. I haven't seen us do that since he left. It was why we lost the Warriors game - we had no territory.

Agreed but we also had to cover for Galvin, that was the problem for us and the problem that Doggies are now having to learn to deal with.

Galvin is dogged and seemingly very confident, and he pops up in all the right places in attack. But also we signed a million-dollar rep and premiership-winning half who was being over-run by Galvin's desire to touch the football 10 times every set.

If you make 200 touches a match then hopefully some of those are nice touches. But also there's a large share of bad passes, kicks dead, wasted tackles, constant tendency to run yourself or crab sideways, the arm-grabs and missed tackles.

For Tigers that's part and parcel of the whole thing, we are capable of those types of errors without Galvin. Our handling has become pretty good but our structure in attack and defence still falls apart under consistent pressure.

But for the Bulldogs, they've built a style based on 17 players who turn up every play. Only really 3 maybe 4 stars in the Dogs side (Crichton, Kikau and Jacob Preston; maybe plus Burton), with the rest being very workman-like. Exemplified for example by the opening props of King and Hughes who are quite average without being bad; Tracey is an admirable but limited fullback and they continue to have to pick nuffies on the wing to partner Kiraz. The backbone of their forward pack are other tough but limited players like Curran, Jaemon Salmon and Kurt Mann.

So Bulldogs 2025 are not used to having a bloke who will throw passes over the sideline and miss key tackles. They are like the Lleyton Hewitt of NRL - a bit small but tenacious, very few unforced errors, a willingness to fight for every point for 80 minutes, no huge weapons but can hurt you with sustained pressure.

Galvin doesn't fit that style, at least not yet. He floats in and out of plays. He gives up quite often especially in defence. He's a classic juniors footballer, he's used to making things happen against lesser opponents by touching the ball all the time and being of a decent size and willingness to get tackled. He still needs to transition into the adult player mindset of choosing his plays more carefully, doing the 1%ers, letting others take control as appropriate. Basically the opposite of a Cooper Cronk-style player who was always more concerned with the long-term strategy of the match and a mindfulness of how play was unfolding and how his team-mates needed to be organised. Galvin is not an organiser, he's a do-er - that's why he'll end up in the backrow eventually.

Well Tigers did it because Tigers are desperate.

Bulldogs are now doing it because they can't bear the possibility that they just bought a $1M lemon. It's a coping mechanism. The knives will come end of season if this campaign falls apart. At the moment they are still Top 4.

They are supporting a winning footy team. When and if they start losing they will turn quicker then you can blink an eye
