Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

You have to love this place.
Ryles is a shrewd, smart operator.
Benji's an imbecile who hasn't got a clue.
Wests Tigers : 7 wins
Parra: 6 wins

Nobody hates on the Wests Tigers better than Wests Tigers fans.
Have you watched the Eels play lately in comparison to us ?
It’s chalk and cheese, if we were playing them this week they would beat us by 20 plus without even trying.

I wish we had more Indigenous players.
I have Indigenous heritage myself and our lack of Indiginous players and at times lack of opportunity given to Indigenous players coming through our juniors and pathways is an entirely different topic, but one I can assure you does not go unnoticed within the Indigenous rugby league community.
I’m not saying this is in anyway deliberate from a Wests Tigers point of view, but more needs to be done in this area if we are to keep up with the systems out in place by nearly all other clubs.
Can't we just look for the best players regardless of race?

We tried to sign Latrell and he snubbed us.

That’s a real high bar.

How did we get on to Benji? Another straw man argument.

That’s great. Ever notice how anyone who refuses to think anything negative never hesitates to belittle others who don’t see things their way? Meanwhile, I’ve never judged anyone for wanting to see nothing but positives. Btw I’ve been told to be patient since 2011 🙄
This is such a poor and lazy response. You were screaming for change. You got it in spades. We actually started signing defent players and 18 games in you are death riding the same coach that made it happen. You're a spud.

I didn’t say not to look at the best players from wherever, I’m saying our programs for Indiginous development and recruitment are falling behind most other NRL clubs, so we need to pick our game if we don’t want to start missing out.

Mate when other clubs are coming for them and your the sh!tt club of the comp you have to offer up something for them to stay

Would you rather play Flegg for the Tigers with no door to first grade or play Flegg for the roosters with no door way but a great club well managed and look after you at every level
The tigers have to offer overs

If it was not for Sheen's with Teddy paying overs when he was a junior he was off to the Dragon's
That one is news to me.

I don't disagree that lower clubs need to offer overs. But it's not either /or, it's a spectrum, much like the one I'm probably somewhere on...

You need balance in these offers and it needs to be thought through and managed.

Sheens and McDonnell brought sledgehammers to hang picture frame nails.

You don't need to offer every kid under the sun dev deals and especially top 30 contracts, particularly guaranteed, straight out of SG Ball.

They over corrected and it's OK for them to be criticised about it.

Please give examples. What indigenous programs are all the other clubs doing? You mentioned the Bulldogs. I don't think there's one indigenous player in their team. They are your standard. By your logic we should exclude all indigenous.

Yes you seem to think very similarly to Rob Bechara which is not a bad thing as he’s a very good Wests Tigers man who looks at things from all angles.
I've spoken with Rob in the past.

I'd say the passion is the same, but we vary on a lot of topics too.

He brings a lot of good conversation to the table, V.

I was screaming for change? Citation needed. I was basically off here for 18 months in the lead up to Marshall taking over, so not sure where that comes from. Also, you’ll have to cite me where I ever endorsed appointing a guy, albeit a club legend, with zero experience. I’ll be keen to see what you find. But I digress. I have a question. I put this in the Benji thread the other day, but this seems like as good a time as any to ask again. What has he brought to the table? Unfortunately you aren’t allowed to say pride in the jersey or the fact players love him. That’s all window dressing. When it comes to the nitty gritty, what has brought to the club as a coach on the field? Where has this team improved, what areas? What tactical nous has he shown? Bravery with team selections? Anything? What justifiable reason do you have to be patient? Do you just feel obligated being a supporter?

The only unipositive thing i said Sam and Sione they could do with a extra 5kgs on their frames as they are only forwards that run with intent purpose. I do not care if they are poly or not was not argument.
To be fair, I don't think your post kicked off that ethnicity discussion.

.... In fact I don't know what kicked off that discussion.

Here we go. Are you ready?

Firstly, are you saying you were asking for no change at all before Benji? Sorry but your snide and sarcastic comments were spamming the forum during the period. You wanted change. Maybe not the change you wanted but you've never said anything positive about the club. We expect that.

Secomdly, what has he brought? At the most basic level he has brought the ability to recruit. More than I can say about our previous coaches.

If we could get our hands on a few good Norwegian’s that would be very handy.
Yeah, if we go Norwegians then Techno Viking is the way to go.

That bloke would rave his way to a premiership.

PS. If you don’t know who I am talking about search it in YouTube. Then do yourself a favour and read the comments. Do a piss first you may laugh hard enough for an awkward moment.

You won't catch me defending Benji's coaching prowess, but you're trying to corner your opponent here unfairly...

Something like 'the fact the players love him', whilst intangible in some ways, is ABSOLUTELY something he has brought to the table. In fact, most coaches who are sacked tend to hear the death knell of 'they've lost the dressing room' in the process of their last weeks with their clubs.

But, clearly, it's recruitment. Benji has been able to recruit, as head coach, better than any head coach in our history, I would argue.

On field? He's struggling.

But pretending that he hasn't been a major factor in finally ending our long run of being the club that none wants to sign at is ridiculous.
