Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Our forwards are pretty complete in many ways.

Just need elite athletes, power runners or 'hard men'.

We don't have room to get all of those things. I still think that Zyon Maiu'u is worth a look- he's that hard running type, but also an elite athlete.

Is he a risk? Yes. Probably why I wouldn't want to spend insane amounts on him. But I see a world where he & Royce Hunt tear up the middle part of a game through brute force.

I think Twal, Sione, Pole & Seyfarth offer the prop rotation role minus the athlete/hard runner style, and Terrell May is practically our version of Yeoh now, just playing in the front row.

KPP will be the athletic defender type. Samuela is an impact type forward & hard man. Sukkar is a tackling type as is Mav Geyer.

WE lack that elite athlete though, which is what Zyon is.

I'd be making an offer to Penrith's Lindsay Smith. Big bloke that can play prop and lock. Has played in the last two winning grand finals and represented Australia last year. Lives in Sydney, so relocating not an issue. Romey, Api, and Tino could have a word in his ear. With Penrith's cap situation we may be able to outbid them. I think he would round off our pack nicely and with our young guys coming through could help set us up for the next 3 years.
Do Penrith have cap issues? To be fair to them they have let go millions and millions worth of talent last few years and not really signed anyone of any contract value (Talagi and IPap), who would of both gone on reduced deals to play for a stronger club.

We really don’t need much:

Fullback: Bula, Turuva
Wing: Skelton, Turuva, Laulili
Centre: May, Toa, Makasini
5/8; Luai, Fainu
Halfback: Douihei, Fainu, Madden
Second Row: KPP, Sam Fainu
Lock/Prop: Twal, Sione Fainu, Terrell May, Seyfarth, Pole
Hooker: Api, Haywood

Fringe players Geyer, Ethan Robert’s, Sukkar, Murray, Hope, Mason, Mapalangi, Taateo.

We really need to replace Hunt and Bird with two younger players of quality. A starting prop would be ideal as Pole and Sione Fainu coming off the bench would damage teams.

If Richo and Benji can get Griffin Neame and ATA Mariota type players into the squad we will make the finals.

Squad looking much better. Hunt and Bird and Seyfarth probably worth getting rid of.

Team chemistry seems great though.

Can't agree. I think Smith is spectacularly mediocre.

His selection last year for the 'Roos was hilarious.

I think squad would be xrtrengthened with a couple of niche role players:
a/ another high quality goal kicker (forward / back doesnt matter) as an alternate to Doueihi if injured / suspended

b/ a backrow forward that can relieve for Apr as hooker to give him the break which he will need more and more as he ages further. We cant have the interchange bench with a specialist hooker who cant play anywhere else just to help Api.

Yeah id prefer Api getting a break 30-50 minute. Makes him more dangerous and less tired.

not sure Fainu can develop to play part time as a hooker.

We still do need a big front rower though. Or a good sized lock.

Definitely seems like we’re building for the first time in a long time.

First year in about 7 years that we don’t need to clean out at least 10 players from our squad.

Ata Mariota is genuinely massive in person.
He's a machine.

Good post.

Just watched the 2005 tribute on NRL.com.
A few things stand out;
1. How good was Scott Prince for the Tigers. One of our all time best and underrated I reckon.
2. Benj and Robbie X factor. Hard to contain and just natural footballers.
3. Tim Sheenius - a shame it hasn’t ended well with the Tigers, but his connection with the squad was everything you want in a coach.
4. Fairytale - still remains the greatest season story of the NRL era. Came from the clouds, defied all odds, played a brand of footy that you couldn’t take your eyes off, captured the imagination of even neutral fans.
5. How many tiger fans were at the grand final! The atmosphere was electric. I was there and I remember it vividly. You can feel it through the telly when they ran out as well.

If there is a sniff of finals in 2026, watch all that fan base come out of hibernation. It’s tough being a tigers fan a lot of the time, but we have something no other club has.
