$50 Million reason Wests Tigers are prepared to quit Campbelltown.

.
So Magpies moved to Campbelltown from Lidcombe in 1987, then moved themselves back to Lidcombe 12 years later after the merger?

Sounds like neither the Wests Tigers or the Magpies have much of a connection with Campbelltown at all.

I don’t have a problem with the Magpies maintaining heritage with Lidcombe…perhaps it’s for the best though they keep that branding out of Campbelltown to avoid potential confusion

The game-day reserve grade team trains at the same venue the NRL team trains. Concord. They're predominantly top 30 + supplementary roster players that are named in the two senior teams and they train together as they oppose each other in training. Otherwise, you have 18 NRL players training against air at Concord, and you have 18 reserve grade players training vs air wherever you're suggesting they train.

A reserve grade team called 'Magpies' playing at Leumeah isn't going to do anything for the Wests Tigers brand in the south-west. It's also expensive hiring a 15k stadium with those facilities for 300 people that turn up. If they were called Wests Tigers, as they should be, then maybe a different story.

Wests Magpies as a brand exists in reserve grade so the geriatrics who control Wests Tigers can re-live the nostalgia of their prime Lidcombe days, and maintain a presence with other foundation brands like Newtown and North Sydney who are lost to the NRL too. The players, the coaches, the staff, etc that work with the team are all contracted to Wests Tigers. Gallant mentioned this in a podcast a while back. I'd say the only people who are Wests Magpies employed are the old guys who sell the entry tickets, or man the BBQ and canteen at Lidcombe.
Cheers,

Where do the Magpies pathways teams predominantly train and play?

I have seen push back on merging the pathways based on the reasoning that you could not expect kids from the South West to travel into the city for training and games.

Mate, do you know the back story of Wests Tigers RLFC?

It's owned 90% by Wests Magpies Pty Ltd, 10% BTRLFC.

Wests Magpies Pty Ltd is owned 66% by HBG, 33% by WSDRLFC.

HBG is Wests Ashfield.
I know this. I am just trying to understand why there is such a big push to play out of Campbelltown, when it seems no one actually wants to. We had to fight hard to get funding for the stadium, the performances are awful and there doesn't seem to be a large supporter base who care at all for the Tigers out there. There are just as many, if not more Dogs and Souths fans out there. There was a brief period of 12 years where the Magpies played some games out there, but they didn't base themselves there.

The Western Suburbs Magpies junior Rep teams play at Camden and supply the vast majority of our locally produced young talent - Galvin, DaSilva, Laulilii, Mason, Makasini etc. So no, the Magpies haven’t moved out of the south-west.

The NSW Cup team are the Wests Tigers reserve grade team and I’m not too sure how much say the Western Suburbs RLFC have in that side. Recruitment, coaching staff, team selections etc.
With regards Lidcombe - I got the feeling they were attempting to tap into the Newtown model. And while they have got the walk down memory lane element in place - the local community offers nothing like the trendy jet setters of King St. Replicating the Henson Park Woodstock vibe is near impossible out at Lidcombe.

Given the junior Rep teams don’t play at Campbelltown Stadium, I doubt stand alone NSW Cup games there, given the current state of play, are feasible either.

Or do you suggest Western Suburbs NSW Cup team play all home games on the undercard to the NRL team? From memory this happened once this year at Campbelltown. If this is your answer then the Magpies would be playing as many home games at Leichhardt as at Campbelltown.

Maybe they could try to tap into a different local market at Lidcombe …a bit like the Bulldogs do at Belmore?

What you do in the privacy of your home is your business. Reading my posts while you do it though 😳
Sadder than I thought.
You unfortunately have a very inflated, and deluded, view of your own worth.
The only things I do at home while reading your posts, besides feeling more sorry for you, is hope you stay on your meds.

You’ve already outed yourself. Way to go 👍

The games at Lidcombe are solely for the old pre merger supporters.
Apart from the young players families (out of necessity) nobody else follows the Magpies.
Unlike Newtown it doesn’t attract the local brigade.
As all the players come from out Campbelltown/Camden way it makes no sense for them to play there all the time.
Even the young players don’t aspire to play for the Magpies…. apart from it being a stepping stone to the NRL and the WestsTigers.

And there is NO Wests Tigers Leagues Club and NO Balmain Leagues Club.
What a sh*t fight.
I guess we will have to wait for all the old nostalgic farts to die before sanity amalgamates the two clubs into the one WESTS TIGERS?

Richardson: Stadium strategy secures long-term future

Wests Tigers have taken a decisive step in shaping their future, announcing a landmark 15-year stadium strategy that will see the club play its NRL and NRLW fixtures out of Leichhardt Oval and Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

The strategy, finalised in partnership with Inner West Council and Campbelltown City Council, ensures that the club’s most historic and culturally significant venues will be its long-term homes, backed by more than $100 million in identified redevelopment funding.

CEO Shane Richardson spoke to media on Monday to stress the significance of the deal for the club’s long-term direction.

Major part of the puzzle

Richardson said the announcement represented the culmination of years of planning and a critical piece of the club’s broader rebuild.

“It’s a major part of the puzzle,” Richardson explained.

“There’s a whole lot of things we had to do to re-establish this club. The independent board is operating successfully, our commercial side will show a profit this year for the first time in a long while. We've increased sponsorships by over 40%.

“The final piece of the puzzle was the stadiums, because we needed quality stadiums that our fans could come along to and know that we could provide quality entertainment for them.”

A clear timeline to 2029

The redevelopment schedule means fans will see both venues undergo upgrades in the coming years, with both set to be ready for the 2029 season.

“'27 we'll probably see Leichhardt shut and get built, '28 will be Campbelltown, and then in '29, we're both together,” Richardson said.

“We’ll play a lot more games at Campbelltown in 2027 and then a lot more games at Leichhardt in '28.

“We’ll still play out of CommBank for the bigger games until both stadiums are fully established in '29. [From 2029] there's 11 games, certainly, that will be locked into either Leichhardt or Campbelltown.”

Long-term growth in Sydney's west

Richardson said the long-term stadium deal is also about cementing Wests Tigers’ place in the western Sydney community.

“It just means that we’re locked in,” he said.

“We’ve got a commitment to the west. We’ll be in 60 schools by the end of the year with our Empower program. We’ve got a strong tie to the leagues club and now to the council.

“We've got a commitment to the historic Leichhardt Oval but the real spread for this club as far as Membership growth and commercial is to the south-west of Sydney.

“This is the final piece of the puzzle.”

Who would be the extra supporters they’d get with stand alone Campbelltown games? So they may as well keep doing what they’re doing at Lidcombe 👍

I’m sure Richo has a deeper understanding of this than the anti-Cambo plebs.
