Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Preference would be to land a big fish forward next season, but if we can't land a big fish for next season, the two players I would look at that are available or 'gettable' are Moale and Marata Nuikore.

Moale - Still only 22 and most props start to emerge as NRL quality around 22-24 years old. He can provide impact off the bench and wouldn't need to play big minutes with Terrell playing 65mins+ most weeks.

Nuikore - He can talk to teams Nov 1, but get the feeling the Warriors would let him go with all the forwards they have. Would be good on a two year deal, giving Godinet and CTM time to develop. Fisher-Harris, Barnett, Halasima, Laban, Erin Clark, Capewell, Ford, Kayliss Fatialofa, Vaimauga and Stowers-Smith. He would be a great bench option and can cover prop, second row, lock and even centre.

Squad could look something like this:

NRLDepth/Cup
8. Terrell May8. Royce Hunt
9. Api Koroisau9. Tristan Hope
10. Fonua Pole10. Alex Seyfarth
11. Samuela Fainu11. Mav Geyer
12. Kai Pearce-Paul12. Tony Sukkar
13. Sione Fainu13. Jack Bird
14. Latu/Douiehi14. Charlie Murray
15. Twal15. Jaxson Rahme
16. Moale16. Peter Taateo/Ruben Porter
17. Nuikore17. Ethan Robers/Solo Saukuru

Andrew Johns was like that in his day . They'd lose by 50 without him, then win by 50 with him

Andrew John’s had a quality team around him when they won their premierships …
Going back to your first comment this is the point. You are comparing apples and oranges with the Knights and Tigers. Knights have had a good roster the last few years but their football is underwhelming and they are overly reliant on Ponga for attacking output. They have realistically never looked a threat when they should of been pushing up the table and now they have had a steep decline this year.

My first comment was in respect of AOB… he got all the blame when they lost this year , but the credit when they went to the semi finals 4 out of 6 years goes to Ponga…. Seems a tough gig to me

Fair enough. I think it was untenable for AOB to keep his job when you take into account all factors.

Who on earth would want to be a coach? Benji is mad for giving up his cushy Fox job to coach the Wests Tigers IMO.

I was told yestrday that we have lost two great young juniors that weren't even offered a contract. Cameron Kanaan and Mark Tannous. Kannan is going to the Penrith and Tannous is going to the Sharks. There is a big issue that we have in losing great young talent that has been grown in our backyard. I know a few people on here don't like it when I go on about our juniors, but because I have seen my son play against some of these kids that we have had but its a disaster that our club drop the ball here. These kids weren't even offered a chance to stay but get identified and signed by others clubs, it seems it be a trend now.
The list of them not even offered a contract players like Aiden Gow scored over 15 tries for the Knights in SG Ball, Alex Conti signed to an NRL deal with the Dogs and has been killing it in Jersey Flegg, Mikey Nasser was the leading try scorer for the Roosters and they won the SG Ball comp this year, Cameron Kannan who has been impressive and our leading try scorer in Flegg and other years in SG Ball and Matts and Mark Tannous who played a first grade trial earlier in the year and developing really well. How isn't one of these kids offered a contract to stay. I thought things would get better with Shannon Gallant in charge but the list keeps on getting longer. Our Juniors are our life blood we need to keep them as long as we can. Its one thing if they are offered a whole heap of deals from different clubs but for them to leave because they arent wanted the ball is being dropped in a big big way.

When "Aiden Gow, Alex Conti, and Mikey Nasser" play 50-100 NRL games, then you can be upset. Many kids excel in lower grades and end up playing Ron Massey cup or leave the game because they don't kick on. Once these players finish age group footy (21s), the funnel dramatically narrows and they're competing against players already in the system for reserve grade and NRL contracts and game.

Nothing is guaranteed. Clubs aren't keeping players to win junior comps. And they can't keep them all. From what I've seen of Kanaan and Tannous, I don't think they have what it takes to play NRL.

Not good, but did we keep others in preference to those named and were they offered something we couldn’t /wouldnt compete against.

‘Some’ teams seem to have unlimited funds to stockpile juniors until they develop and show if their ability will transfer to NRL quality.

The roosters and now bulldogs seem to have adopted this ‘recruitment’ framework and then get to call them local juniors 🤦‍♂️

Great juniors? Both will struggle to be regular reserve graders

the clubs identified the potential “elite” talent from the juniors teams and have them locked up or offered a chance to progress in our pathways. you can’t keep em all and they are prioritising the right ones in the positions we need.

Hi mate, appreciate the info even if disagree that the players you mention are a loss. You seem to get a bit of info about Wolves players, is that correct?

Any credit ability to this source
Are they sure they are talking about the us here .. ??

"Sources close to the negotiations suggest the Tigers are leading the chase, with the three-time premiers eager to bolster their pack following key departures. The addition of Fifita would not only add strike power on the edge but also reinforce their already formidable forward rotation."

Is this site/source legit or a gee up .. ?? If true i'll take him in a heart beat .. ;-)
