Not having a crack and wasn't b4 but most people wouldn't know that. I was a non resident for tax purposes but when I came back I worked in Australia part of the year and they hit me up for some of my Japanese earnings.Mate, I worked at the ATO a long time ago and did some work in the double tax and international agreements area. It's not difficult. If your domicile and the point of earnings are outside Australia and have no link to Australia you don't pay tax in Australia.
So if you're considered a non-resident for tax purposes only your Australian-sourced income will be taxed in Australia. I've got a couple of mates who are finance execs on that massive NEOM project in Saudi Arabia and their earnings are tax-free in Saudi and Australia.
Once you know s.t. it's often not rocket science but until you do......
