Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Yes I get it - and I'm not hard over on him wearing 6 or 7. The point is that it is ludicrous to state that Luai can't play 7. He can given the right framework.

I am simply tying to follow what the club has stated in that Luai is the 7. I don't care what number he wears. Our problem with the halves that we have selected as our base going forward need a pack to provide time and space for them to work. What we had in 2025 was not up to it and, without change we are going to face a similar problem in 2026.

There are solutions that would make it work for the long term - AD to 7, in my book, isn't one of them.

I'm pulling together an analysis of our 2025 performance based on Twal at 13 to identify key deficiencies and will use that to pull together potential solution for us in 2026. Not to say this is how to do it - but as a basis for discussion on how to address the 6,7,13 issues we have.
The thing is last year , regardless of who he was playing with, not once did Luai stand up and take the dominant role. Whether it was Galvin, Fainu, Doueihi or anyone else he still deferred responsibility to others. That shows in his actions that he isn't a 7. And had no desire to be a 7.

He's a 5/8, and a decent one. As a half he's a long way behind the likes of Hynes.

I think that deep down we all want Bula to stay optimistically hoping he can back up in attack more and improve his fragile defense.

But if his D wad manager is pushing for multiple years @ 900k or higher, do we pay that.

Richo's sure to have a ceiling on the deal and there could be a stalemate happening now hence the deafening silence, oh apart from A wipe whipping up the media.

Journey man, career lower grader.

Naden, Staines and Lobb gone... we get this guy.

Just glad he's a cup contract.
Why get rid of Staines then? Staines was a reliable back up, good defender and if he was outside better centres would have been a more potent attacker. It seems this Parra & Souths reject just can't crack it in first grade, can't see him making our top team anytime soon....unless we have a bad run with injuries.

Galvin is very much the opposite of Luai...

Luai knows when to go quiet and hang back. Galvin makes himself the center of attention and is used to being able to physically punch through.

GI was one of the best at knowing how to do this. Yes some games he dominated, but he could wait for the right moment and pounce. Munster was trained at Melbourne to read the play, play your part and know when to pounce... All Centers and 5/8's not halfbacks.
Andrew Johns was the best at choosing his moments....would almost be invisible for 60mins just steering the ship (at 7) and would then put on a clinic for 20mins.

would any other club be dumb enough to pay $900k is the question. I doubt it. Problem is that other clubs can incentivise in other ways.

Probably cost too much money.
This Lehmann guy probably a fraction of the price and isn't taking a top 30 spot.

Wondering about KMapz an Izaac T
This may be a sneaky insight but it looks like the club is in the process of updating the player profiles on the website with departing players removed (i.e. Staines, Naden & co) however KMapz remains.

Costs way to much. I like Staines as a bloke and a player but he is everything that was wrong with this clubs cap management the last few years. We reportedly paid him 500k his first season then extended him for 2 more at likely about 300k to do a role a train and trialist should be doing. Would likely not have been retained without offering a top 30 contract given he had options overseas.
