Breaking news: HBG takeover

I don’t know why there are so many derogatory references to age in this thread. Age has little to do with it. A 35 year old could have followed Wests or Balmain pre-merger. Does that mean that we should disregard the opinion of all over 35s?
I’m 74 and I reckon just about all over 70s on this forum do not support HBG’s actions this week. That includes old Magpies and Tigers.

This is 💯 the truth . These guys never transitioned to Cambo , let alone to wests tigers . It’s sad . Because these guys are 70 plus and even that was almost 40 years ago. They’ve spent almost as much time supporting a team who doesn’t play in Ashfield and lidcombe as much as they have.
This is why I think it's important that after this latest drama the cord has to be finally cut from HBG.
With hopefully action taken from the NRL, gaming commission and more ex-players protesting their disapproval one can only hope it's curtains for that mob.

The other thing imo is this is prob the best looking jersey we've had since maybe the 2005 training jersey imo. Nothing to do with the color but the design imo is fire.
I had to return mine for a larger size (seems old TS still has the guns to go with his dad bod! 🤣), as I want it to be comfortable - and also needs extra fabric to wipe my tears when watching - I didn't buy it to play in it.

So I'm anxiously awaiting the replacement - scared they'll recall the only WT jersey I've ever looked enough to buy! 😳

Sent it back with a self addressed express post bag! 🤣

To avoid these issues caused by an obvious conflict of interest, The HBG / WT boards should be made up of people with no attachment to Balmain or WSM as Caine mentioned yesterday there’s plenty of worthy candidates in that age bracket.

I’d make an exception for Richardson (as CEO) because of his track record, but with a succession plan in place.
I’m not sure about that. I would have loved Wayne Pearce on the WT board for his football experience and nous. He’s heart and soul Balmain Tigers and he’s 65 but I think he’d be great for us.

To flip the narrative, no one under 35 gives a flying you know what about this us versus them rubbish.

Yet we have Board members carrying it on.

The vitriol is aimed at those old pricks.

Every decision he made would be scrutinised for balmainness. We need to grow up.

Fair enough but they are absolutely in the minority. This forum is no different. Nearly all of us support WT above everything else. Sadly, there may well be one or two in positions of authority at HBG. I don’t know how many.

Disagree strongly. Pearce would transcend that. You don’t discount good people because of their background. If you are correct why on earth did they make BOF chair. He was a died in the wool Tigers supporter.

Well, I’m 39 and for years I was as staunch a Magpie as there could be. Getting real stuck in to the Balmain vs Wests stuff. But there came a time about 10 years ago, I stopped caring. I’d realised it had been 15 years, what was the point? Now 10 years on, it’s even less relevant. Sure, there’s still a few diehards, but that’s gonna happen. To give you a snapshot of how out of touch some of them are, a guy from the Fanatics posted about a decade ago that his fight for the Magpies cost him his marriage. This was around 2012. What a way to waste your life.

The end of 2027
So at the end of 27 the NRL can offer the licence to someone else

The NRL owns the name and Logo of the West Tiger's it would not be hard

Just bypass HBG maybe West Campbelltown and or Balmain can make a new deal

Or West Campbelltown and the NRL

In my opinion Wayne Pearce as great a player he was started this whole rot. He was not equipped to manage a roster and recruit players. Set us back decades.

And that's from an old Balmain fan.

And how did that work out? Only way forward is to leave the past behind in this situation.

Most logiccal people understand that it's not possible to get decisions on a board passed without the board members being present aka the representatives from the HBG.. but let's keep ignoring that.
The reason given by Daniel Paton acting as the HBG spokesperson as to why the 4 independent board members were dismissed, suggested it was due certain decisions being made without them knowing.
So he is either suggesting the HBG representatives sitting on the Wests Tigers board were not passing on this information, or the decisions were being made without them knowing.
IF he is suggesting the HBG representatives were not passing on the information, why wouldn’t they have been dismissed along with the 4 independent board members ?
So at the moment you are among a chorus of fans all up in arms suggesting it is entirely the fault of the HBG for this latest unrest and media attention.
Maybe it is the HBG deliberately creating friction for no valid reason, that will soon be determined.
However if it is proven that decisions that should go to board level were being made (being approved) without them reaching board level, would that not then be a breach of conduct and the HBG would then have every right to be unhapppy about it ?
If that happened at any other company it would not be accepted, so why do we all just expect that IF THIS IS PROVEN TO BE TRUE that the HBG should have just grin and beared it not to cause any media attention ?
IF PROVEN TO BE TRUE wouldn’t the people involved in misconduct be the ones to blame ?
On the flip side if the comments made by the HBG spokesperson regarding the reason for the independent board member’s dismissal turn out to be fabricated, then a change of ownership would be the only realistic option moving forward.

I’m pretty sure we made a big play for Gus to be our inaugural coach. But can’t complain too much, cos we ended up with Sheens and climbed the mountain. It’s a crime that we didn’t build on that.

Didnt think you would reply....cant or wont...pretty cowardly
Thanks.for clarifying your position
I’m not sure why it’s so important to you ?

Truth be known, I’d love to have the Western Suburbs Magpies in the NRL, but for a quarter of a century now, I’ve realized that era has passed.

Happy now ?
