Smithy has done it on purpose the last hour and it’s bitten us.The commentators are right ....the over rates are shocking
Anyone would be.England would be very happy with that score day 1
Fergus O’Neill is a gun but not getting many wraps for some reason. Averaging something like 20 or less with the ball and a handy bat. Think he bowls reasonably quick as well.Starcy looked completely spent at the end, without him this bowling line up is extremely ordinary...i honestly think the future of Aussie cricket is not great, there is not many young gun bowlers or batsmen coming through at this stage
yea good call, Fergus name has been talked about a bit, hopefully he keeps improvingFergus O’Neill is a gun but not getting many wraps for some reason. Averaging something like 20 or less with the ball and a handy bat. Think he bowls reasonably quick as well.
But yeah not really much out there otherwise. I guess I just used this to spruik Fergus O’Neill.
I need to get something off my chest which has been gnawing at me for a long time. The state of cricket commentary in 2025. We really had no idea just how good we had it with Richie and co did we? Richie would turn over in his grave if he saw what commentary has become. 7 or Fox, take your pic. Today, it’s all about them, they’re the stars. Watching Fox yesterday, at Tea and they showed a reply of the wickets. But we also had to see a camera on the box, watching them as they called them. And don’t even get me started on Triple M. They might just be the worst. The only true team that resembles the old days is the ABC. Jim Maxwell is the best cricket commentator in the country and it’s not even close. Back to Fox, they started talking about an English declaration when they were 5 down. As the wickets kept tumbling, the talk got louder and louder. To the point when they got 9 down, they could not believe that the Poms kept batting. Even when the last two were hitting them everywhere. I’d say it turned out to be a good decision. Root is still there, if they come out again today and knock out another 30 or 40, that’s going to be a pretty formidable score. Yet these clowns wanted them to declare at 9/270. Just to get a few overs in under lights. Sure, it works if you get a couple. But if the opposition finish none down, suddenly you look like idiots.
We were just talking about this yesterday champion @GNR4LIFE.
My family goes back a bit, like Alan McGilvray (ABC), who much like Benaud, just had that understanding of the game, but mostly respect for the game and the viewer/listener.
It was a seamless watch/listen, the game the commentary - you felt you were there, every ball described with the smoothness of an elegant drive through the covers.
Today's TV commentators are oral social media wannabies.

Its the Amerification of our sports. All about personalities and bells and whistles. How pointless is that balance graphic on Fox?I need to get something off my chest which has been gnawing at me for a long time. The state of cricket commentary in 2025. That is fantastic.(Just had to post this here - it's what we all are - cricket fans to the core!)
"This is Peter & Rob White.
Peter is blind, but that does not stop him from following England around the world with the Barmy Army.
He takes his radio with him everywhere, and talks to Rob about what is happening on the field.
THIS is exactly what cricket is about."

The fox box? What a self indulgent, ego driven wast of space. “get me more air time than the actual talent”I need to get something off my chest which has been gnawing at me for a long time. Self indulgent is an apt description. And as someone else mentioned, Australian commentary (in most sports) has been really Americanised the last decade. Very sad.The fox box? What a self indulgent, ego driven wast of space. “get me more air time than the actual talent”
I, as I am sure you do to, I know all the players, all the rules, stats, and strategy, and quite often turn the commentary off. You don’t need it. I will turn it up when I need to know something but otherwise I don’t need it. I will almost always watch NRL this way as that commentary is the worse. You can add meathead to ego, and self indulgent when it comes to NRL commentary. Although I must admit if we are winning well I do turn it up sometimes.
All the T20 competitions have given rise to all these commentators too now, it seems like that’s their retirement fund. There has already been news on how good Uzy will be in the box.
Yeah if the radio was in sync I’d be doing that for sure. As @GNR4LIFE said, and I reckon 99% of cricket fans know, Jim Maxwell and the ABC is the best cricket commentary in Oz since we lost Richie, and Tony. Its the Amerification of our sports. All about personalities and bells and whistles. How pointless is that balance graphic on Fox?
I just watch it on mute now as ABC never seems to sync up.
