A few unsatisfactory series batting averages
Neser 17.0
Green 18.6
Weatherald 20.8
Marnus 24.8
To put in context Starc is 30.2
These are not good enough to retain selection with so many better performers at State level deserving a chance
Neser you could argue he's a bowling allrounder but his bowling today terrible
Green and Weatherald must go !
How is Capt Pat in cotton wool playing just one test in months yet Starc is expected to back up test after test who by the way not only has by far the most wickets in the series ( 26 ) but also has them at the lowest average and best strike rate of any bowler from either team
Cant blame Starc
Batting ave 30.2 Bowling ave 26 wickets at 17
Too many good deserving cricketers not getting a go because of stubborn continuous support for the likes of Green and Weatherald
Must put a 100% in form team on the SCG
4-1 sounds a lot better than 3 -2

I think there are a lot more suitable causes to throw a million dollars at than a meaningless ODI that no one will remember in a week.
When we won our 6th World Cup in Nov 23 beating India in the final in India
England has won one with a super over
I like 50 over cricket more than 20 over cricket
Most any other country has won is 2 ( Windies and India )
I remember them well but if ones country is hopeless at it them probably forget them or say they are not important

I cannot remember a poorer batting Australian cricket team.
No excuses.
Not ODI.
Not limited overs.
Not anything
Technique does not exist in our top order batters.
The baggy green used to be something to be earned and cherished.
Now everyone gets a prize.

(And this comment is not just because the Aussies lost today - the Aussies have been woeful in their inconsistent top order batting for a long time, with individuals being band-aids covering the depth of the problem. Accountability is missing. )

Of course. I reckon the ABC radio idea was a plant to test public sentiment. This is a serious issue. People have paid big money, travelled large distances and taken time off work and family to watch day 3.
They’ve helped fester the monster that is 20/20. Which in turn has put players in a constant 20/20 mindset. It’s going to get worse before it gets better.

From a spectator POV, you’d also be filthy about getting a refund. It’s Boxing Day. Good chance thousands of people would make plans to travel from all around the country. Especially being The Ashes.

Don’t disagree.

You said a million is a waste. I countered with a reason why it’s not a waste.

20/20 and tests are two different high value yet overlapping markets. Both have a place.

My possible solition is 4 day tests.

My son was given tickets to the fourth day for Christmas, okay he gets a refund, but what about the airfare from Sydney to Melbourne return. I guess with the NRL you know your game will start and finish as per schedule, cricket these days is a lottery. Of course the trouble is,the curators will now be put under pressure to produce 20/20 style flat tracks in order to get games to go the distance. Personally I love seeing the bowlers get a track in their favour for once, but the batsmen today bat on roads, so when they get something other than a road they struggle big time

The next test played at the MCG will probably play all 5 days for about 1500+ runs and about 23 wickets total because it will be completely docile. To be honest the overreaction from today's game will be horrendous.

Even 4 days is a loss of revenue though.
Big disagree.

That’s assuming tests go 5 days…what’s your
opinion on recent tests (across all nations) and future? Do you think the best test playing nation in the world will continue to take it to 5 days on home soil?

Edit; that’s not even an argument. The losses on today’s test is based on broadcast deals and ticket sales for a 5 day test. In future you would still make big if not as big of profits on 4 day tests. It wouldn’t be a loss. You would perhaps profit less.

Cost me about $4k all up last year for one day at the cricket. Includes travel, accomm, food, massages, etc. for two.
Unless I win at cards or roulette, which I do.
