CEO Forum 20 Jan 26 - Hotwash Part 1

Didn't they change that into a disappointments room, what are they going to do with all the wooden spoons and more of a decade of documented F ups.

Maybe there's plenty of room down at HBG headquarters for it all, a constant reminder to pull your heads in or this stuff will happen again.
i believe HBG have hired a whole kennards storage facility to house all their dumb decisions and F-ups.

One other thing that comes to mind from the COE tour- completely irrevelant information though.

The barber's chair is back!

Apparently the players requested its return as some of them want to practice their grooming skills. It was mentioned that if you notice some slick hair dos about the man with the skills on the scissors and clippers is one Heamasi Makasini.

Not the first time he's cut back inside ..... 😉

It's not actually a room, more of an alcove with a chair and a mirror. Nothing special at all - certainly not the fuss the media created over it. Spoons must be at HBG, couldn't find them anywhere in the COE.

I take it the Wests Macarthur move is just a football pathways thing or is it a possible precursor to getting the Wests Group more involved with club again.
Maybe a question @cochise can ask Shaun abiout futre intentiions on the poddie. Certainly sounded more like the organisations would be separate but supporting simialr to the St Marys set up. I was a Saints player and in my day there wasn't a formal setup. I wiull reach out to some mates who are still very active in the club to ask Dave Cartwright about how it is set up.

No, not really. I would have liked to go into more depth in places - particularly the football program and how that is developing. I think that Shaun is focussed on the governance and the support structure though and keeps his nose out of what Benji and his team do. Of course he is involved but it came across very clearly that Benji (and Craig) are responsible for delivering success on the paddock - he is responsible for everything that enables that. The alignment appears to be there - the acknowledgement that there were two sets of values in the club and neither knew about the other's values was a bit of a pants down moment that he didn't need to air; but he did because he thought it was important for us to know that deficiance had been identified and are in the process of being rectified.

I guess the question that is still hanging is how we get HBG to willingly give us more $ to be competitive. It is clear that the adversarial / independent approach was unsuccessful. So from that the question that is unanswreed, and is unanswerable at this time, is: Has PVL scared HBG enough to set the conditions for a collaborative approach to deliveing success for Wests Tigers?
Much appreciated for your input. I do believe all your views are measured and similar to mine and not in the heat of the moment like the forum on the afternoon of a loss.
There’s always going to be questions unanswered but definitely in the short term it’s best to move forward somewhat as a definitive cannot be measured. Unless it’s an elephant in the room that is hindering momentum.
We are in a position that really can’t be undone without further hurt imo. But if hbg learn from this experience will be a plus.
I’ve been a player at several club’s and committee’s always get criticism and taken over from time to time because new think they can do better than old but mostly start the cycle of learning again as no processes are in a matrix for those who follow. The more money any club has at their disposal circumvents the ineptitude of those running it. Personal opinion though

Adding and asking after a bit more deliberation
Is there a chance to ask if all board members being vetted by the skills matrix that was required by the independent board
This would be a way to level up of hbg input

Thanks @Jolls, much appreciated.

Respectfully may I ask how and why you were chosen to attend this forum? (BTW Glad you did).

There are a few titans of corporate Australia here on the forum that could lend insight and expertise also.

Thx again for the write up.
There was a message to members that came out some time back asking if they would like to chat with Shaun. I responded and received an invitation to attend one of four events. I chose to go to the first one. Simple as that.

I think the No change less Richo is a positive for the moment as it means we are still heading forward with the Richo momentum. I think staff upskilling and growth is key to Shaun's plan as we aren't going to have the worlds best pathways program unless we invest in it and our people.

What I took from yesterday is that for HBG to profit they need to spend $. HBG is in essence a not for profit organisation as its charter is all about giving back to the community. So, for example, HBG would achieve their community investment goals through investing in the pathways, empowerment and community engagement schemes that are proposed.

The "Collective Strength" Shaun spoke about is doing business in a way that achieves both HBG's and WT's goals. We need to follow the Penrith example of having the club change from being pissed off about kicking in a couple of Mil to being happy with kicking in 10 and looking for more ways to invest in us. Unlock that gate and we are on the right track. As I have said already - it briefs well. Turning this dream into reality will take some hard work.
Thanks mate.

I didn't know that HBG was non- profit. Can you expand more on their charter or how it works? I couldn't find much info on their website.

I know you probably don't have this answer but I'd love to know more about what "investing" in development pathways means. We seem to have teams in every tier and age-bracket of Rugby League including Women's but none of them seem to perform well unless you get a prodigious talent coming through.

There would be no invite with richardson however unsure how the invite improves the club.

I went to a pascoe one a few years back while it made me feel good about myself temporarily i can now say it done nothing for onfield performance.

Host of changes with sheens sacking, no more blore ect. Pascoe and richardson now gone Same shit different day with rather club same issue the owners.. is shawn pascoe v2 ?

Regardless appreciate the update

I don't think the invite does much to improve the club in ther short term. It is part of that circular development - to grow members you need to connect with them and the commnity they are likely to come from that provide income and incemtive which drives results which get more mebers etc. This is simply a communications exercise - that they may get a couple of ideas from. It allows the club to demonstrate that members matter; when the reality is that we are an income stream that they want to grow and communication is part of that process.

The benefit of attending is that I got to gauge what I thiought was genuine and what was fluff and get a feel for where I think they plan to go. I feel better having attended as I know the plan behind the strategy. There is a long way to go- but I think we have opportunities now that Pascoe and Hagipants didn't have. I don't think Shaun is Pascoe v2.0 asI think PVL/Richo have given him a foundation to grow the club from.

It will be intersting to see what feedback comes from the other sessions.

kThanks mate.

They aren't not for profit per se, but the constitution has numerous community related objectives the key ones being:
  • (a) To provide for members and members' guests a social and sporting Club with all the usual facilities of a Club including residential and other accommodation liquidand other refreshment libraries and provision for sporting musical and educational activities and other social amenities.
  • (b) To assist generally in the promotion conduct and propagation of Rugby League football in the Rugby League Football District of the Western Suburbs of Sydney or elsewhere and to provide or assist in the provision of training and conditioning and teaching facilities for football played in accordance with the rules of the New South Wales Rugby Football League.
The investment Shaun spoke of is in the development of a bespoke, world leading system that looks after the development of players, coaches and staff from juniors to NRL, or wherever they are cut, and their transition from Fottball back into normal society.

Cochise or BWG , someone of that ilk,had a good breakdown of where the nonprofit profits went too.
Small percentage went towards league. WTs or juniors from memory
