The halves problem

The best of the worst!
And btw..Warriors are undoubtedly in good form..but theyre not gonna win the comp, nor are formidable like some of the Panthers or Storm teams of the past(think Storm 66/nil against us a year or two back, with NAS running rampant..)
IF Latu is fit.and it seems so...and lets not forget were paying him $500k /yr,..hes gotta start
Theres literally nobody else close to his skill set(particularly defence)
His future is NOW
His moment has arrived

I've backed them to win the comp before round 1 so we will see

For those that are old enough,
Super Coach Jack Gibson quote you should always replace a player (like for like)
I’m 1975 East lost a Centre injured the week of the Grand Final and Jack Debuted a kid in the centres in the Grand Final.

Our half’s for this weekend should be
7. Madden
6.Andrews / Latu

BacksHalvesForwardsBench
1. Bula
2. Makasini
3. Turuva
4. Herbert
5. Skelton
6. Latu Or Andrews
7. Madden
8. May
9. Api
10. Pole
11. Sam Fainu
12. KPP
13. Twal
14. Haywood
15. Sione
16. Bunty
17. Mav Geyer
18. Laulili
19. Seyfarth
Haywood played flegg round 2 and was off the bench for KOE yesterday. I dont think hes ready to be coming off the bench in the NRl next week. It has to be Hope.

It should be Murray. We need Api playing 80 if possible, but having Murray there gives us a guy who can do just as good as Hope if Api does need a rest, and also play some middle. Murray covers more bases and is a better player.

If Latu is ready, he has to be there. His defense is a real bonus, probably an upgrade on Luai, and he needs to be given a free rein in attack next to the steady Madden.
I'm really intrigued to see a 6 Latu Fainu & 7 Jock Madden combination once Latu is match fit.

This is probably the most traditional of halves combos we could put out in terms of the skills & assets they bring to each position with Latu on his preferred left side & Jock right. Jock's game management to free up Latu's running game & ball playing skills.

Exactly!

To be honest BWG I'd really like to see this combination succeed because I think a more traditional, balanced and settled combo would actually work better for the Tigers and, potentially, unlock the outstanding potential of Makasini, Bula and Laulilii. Even though Luai and Douehi have played well recently, I think they are little too off the cuff and lateral at times for the consistent flow of the back line.

I like this run on team, Skelton and Maka are wingers and there they should stay. Turuva is more versatile as a centre and Patrick Herbert is an outright centre with experience. Latu or Andrews are the only real options we have to cover 6. Both would be risky, but we need to take that risk.

I’m not sure about Geyer on the bench, I think I’d stick with Hunt and Murray in for Haywood. As another poster mentioned, Murray is a better player and can cover more positions. He played really well in the trial matches.

It's a quandry. Luai isn't going anywhere, team co-captain, international rep, leader of team culture, the club's #1 marketing talent. imo Benji will try to manufacture Latu into a #13 to build a team around the personnel rather than recruit personnel to build a team if that makes sense.

I’m hoping Luai and Latu are the halves pairing going forward. From the small amount of game time I’ve seen from Latu, he’s and out and out halfback and a really good one. Doueihi is the perfect fit to be a ball playing lock, imo. He has the size and the skills. I’m hoping Benji will go with this, of course it all depends on if Latu can ever actually stay on the field for more than 10 minutes.

Yeah Murray could play too
