OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

PNG probably need about 20 players, maybe a couple more. The rest of there roster will be locals. So they have 17 franchises and all of ESL to fill these spots. There will be plenty of players looking for a juicy tax free pay check willing to live in PNG. So I don’t see a big exodus from our club or any other club, I think the players will come from lots of clubs…..Well that’s what Iam hoping

Jarome grew up in Mount Druitt in the early 2000s. Not saying its the same as PNG, but its not like he has lived an easy pampered life. Id say that kind of upbrining has given him a better appreciation of the simple things living in a compound would bring.

Goodluck to him, its a pretty ballsy move which will provide his family with life changing money.

The money is just one part of a major lifestyle decision. Most people just don’t fully comprehend how tough it is over there. I travelled to PNG regularly for 25 years and believe me. I met all sorts of expats, mercenaries and others and saw first hand what living there can do to you and your family.
Despite the fact that he’d be adored up there, it’s a huge decision and one that requires very careful consideration.
Bad enough doing FIFO to the Pilbara from the East Coast.

Fit In or F*ck Off as they say. 🤣

So they were going to upgrade our highest paid player who is already on massive overs onto even bigger overs without actually knowing what the new salary cap will be. That seems a worse outcome than what we have now.
Meanwhile Luai's camp was going to agree to this despite knowing that they are already well positioned to renegotiate when the cap does rise and to take advantage of opportunities such as PNG.
Richo may have been trying to negotiate an upgrade/clause removal (though even this I doubt since he agreed to them in the first place). I don't see any reason why Luai's management would agree to it.
They don’t have to offer him any more money , as the $1.2 million will be tax free .
On nrl 360 , they said that png still have a salary cap , but all players get tax free

If J.L. signs with the chiefs he gets:

  • Minimum $1.2m per year tax free.
  • 3rd party deals taxfree (there would be plenty of those on offer).
  • Subsidised travel for him and his family back to Australia.
  • Subsidised accomodation
  • Free education for his kids
All up close to $3m per year tax free!...

Crazy not to take it if he can handle the different lifestyle....

We still have him next year to further develop Latu and Andrews to take over....

I say go!....and thank you for everything you have done for the WT. A great signing he has turned out to be!...as long as many WT don't follow him..

JL has been great for the teams culture and has played a part in signing players .., but two years later it’s now Benji primarily driving this ..

If HBG are sabotaging the team as you suggest … then it’s up to BM to speak out about it … no one else has the voice …

More likely on my opinion … players off contract come 2028 are waiting to see how much the new NRL Broadcast deal is …and the flow on to the salary cap and don’t want to commit too early
You can easily get them to sign a deals with ratchet clauses that still gives them their current percentage of whatever the new cap is.

SIMPLES

or you can beg like a Meerkat

Like the talking heads say im more concerned if he does go about others bailing on us. Turuva, Mays, Fainus. Im hopeful they respect Benji more than Luai so wont bail on us but im not 100% others wont follow.
You think Luais disrespecting Benji?
When we are talking about a possible.3 or 4 million dollar difference in his income...Benji knows all about leaving clubs.
Benji and the club were well.aware everything has been transparent...i guess he disrespected Ivan as.well when he came.here

Not been rude , but do u really think he has not made a lot of money already, I don’t begrudge him to make as much money as he can , what pisses me off as he came here on big money , and he has said all the right things , like we love the place and I love all the players , and he has BEEN a big reason that we have improved, and I think we could go close to win the competition over the next couple of years , wish him all the best

Hes obviously made decent money already but who knows how many he is supporting with that money.
Pretty common for Pacific Islanders that make it to be supporting more family than just their own wife and kids.

Didn't watch it but he and Bateman are great mates from Batemans time in Canberra. It was also reported that Bateman has been in Canberra the past couple weeks with family. So makes sense.
