Madden could, perhaps, become a marquee half if he is persevered with and encouraged. He was an elite Newcastle junior who was blooded too early at the Tigers the first time. After spending time in the Brisbane system and watching Reynolds, he's come back to us, far more the finished product. He was great in the three consecutive wins and showed what a real, organising halfback can do.

Woah woah woah. I hate having to reply to comments like this because it looks like I’m bagging the guy when I’m not, but it has to be said. Madden has been exceptional when called upon this year. But a few good games does not suddenly mean he’s the long term answer, let alone a marquee player. He’s 26 and played less than 50 games. At best he’s a solid journeyman. Not a player you build your club around.

I get where you are coming from, but madden has looked more of a marquee half than luai this season..

Twal and Douhei are different players.

Sometimes, things just click. 26 isnt bad. Better than 20 year old galvin as a marquee.

For Luai’s replacement, Cleary would be nice, but hell will freeze over before he ever comes here. If he didn’t want to come here when his old man was here, he ain’t coming here when he isn’t. A realistic target I think is Sam Walker. I’d be very keen.

Why do we need him? Madden has proven in the couple of games he's played that he adds value to the side

No different to the Dolphins their first year. They didn’t sign any stars either. With the Bears, there’s even less incentive as you have to move to the other side of the country, and still have to pay taxes like the rest of us plebs.
