Who here actually supports Western Suburbs in the KOE NSW Cup?

Seems pretty reasonable for a club with such strong heritage to have a Tiger in NRL and a Magpie in the KOE. Especially since Wests Magpies rugby league club foot most of the bill for running koe games.

Having a differently branded feeder team hasn't hurt the Sharks.
Sharks and Newtown aren't a joint venture and have a commercial agreement same as Manly did with Blacktown Workers. Very different

Ok, maybe we do a commercial venture between Tigers NRL and Magpies KOE? Oh wait..... I think the principle alluded to is not that bad is it????

I prefer them to play as WT but it's not happening in the foreseeable future. I went to Henson Park for the beer and footy festival a few weeks back and the crowd was huge. So many heritage jerseys from different clubs. Jets still have their fans who knows if they support Cronulla in NRL? They know how to run a good day out. I don't support Magpies in Cup I watch only to see how players are going. Our Cup teams have been Balmain/Ryde Eastwood- 2 GF, same year WSM didn't win a game & got the spoon. Then they played as WT for a few years, then back to WSM, spoon in 2024, 9th last year. Name seems to be the least of the problems.

Fair enough. I do think there is something of the old tribalism in the Sydney based KOE teams that has been sort of fractured over time with the bigger NRL.

Joint venture , Balmain and wests , so run both in KOE , I get they put money up but it looks better for the club wests tigers , every one has their opinion , it’s just mine

Thats because Sheens shafted them by demanding all NRL prospects play for Ryde Eastwood leaving WSM with a side that was made up of park footballers.

And both balmain and wests had an agreement under the terms of the JV that both foundation clubs would remain in the second tier competition. Not wests fault balmain went belly up.
Balmain Ryde Eastwood (2005-2012) stopped playing in Cup when it was decided that the JV would field a WT team. Must have really irked to see them make the GF twice. What happened to that agreement during the years they played as WT?

"The Wests Tigers’ Intrust Super Premiership NSW side will be branded as the Western Suburbs Magpies in 2018 as part of its Macarthur region strategy.

The decision is designed to strengthen the club’s position and continue to cultivate a robust pathways system in the Macarthur region. The Magpies will play several 2018 home games at Campbelltown Sports Stadium which will also include Wests Tigers NRL game days."

The Macarthur strategy didn't last long, how did that junior development and robust pathways system go?

Back at Lidcombe since 2021.

Yeah mate, our club has a lot of opinions!

I guess at the end of the day, the joint venture agreement is for the NRL team and everything else is up for negotiation.

At the risk of sounding like I'm poking the emotional wasp nest, Balmain footy club could theoretically put forward their own proposal to be the feeder club too.

You are spot on.
Somehow the Magpies get blamed for following the terms of the agreement.
Why did they play as WT for a number of years? Why wasn't the agreement important then? Balmain/Ryde Eastwood dissolved to make way for WT to invest in development and pathways in Macarthur who then make way for the WSM who returned to Lidcombe in 2021. Right.

Very conveniently forgotten about and dismissed by uneducated fans who love finding any reason to have a whinge.

It was 1 year (2013 ) - Ryde Eastwood was struggling to fund the Balmain/Ryde Eastwood side as Balmain was contributing nothing ( sound familiar ) - they actually made the grand final with a stacked side courtesy of Tim Sheens. It was decided by WT to streamline the reserves to one side for financial and pathway reasons. Wests magpies were dirty at the way they had been treated in 2012 and the upcoming merger with BRET in 2013 and members voted to end the agreement at reserve grade level. It lasted 1 year and reserve grade reverted back to Wests magpies in 2014 and Balmain/Ryde Eastwood became defunct as they were unable to field a side because of finances.
