A very sad story if you follow it up,he was a very promising footballer whose career was destroyed when a scrum collapsed on him damaging his spine/neck becoming a paraplegic (from memory) and Penrith supported him by by employing him as a doorman at the leagues club (once again from memory).
I am sure some people will know more than i do about it as memory is not always 100% correct.

Quadriplegic, and yes, worked st Panthers for many years. He was only 23 when injured.

You're right it is simplistic.

Because it's a simple concept. You lose the most games during the season, then over that season you are the worst team in the competition.

You want to pick and choose parts of the season to determine who is the better team? Thats like saying "oh yeah we've missed the last 15 finals series, but we won the comp in 2005 so we're a great club."

Same concept applies to the game of poker and it also applies to rugby league.

This is what's called results orientated thinking. You are just looking at wins/losses in a vacuum. Just because they lost more games doesn't mean they played poorly.

We won our games at the start of the season when the standard level of play isn't great due to lack of match fitness. Winning games at the back end of the season counts for alot more.

It doesn't matter. If we have won more games than them at the end of the season, we are demonstrably the better team over the course of the year. F/A only comes into play when you're trying to determine finals placing. Other than that it's only ever about the two points each week.

You don't start playing for points after round 10. If you did, then yeah, Dragons are a better side.

I look at the wins/losses on a ladder because that is how it is worked out. At the end of the day, the better team is determined after 80 minutes (or golden point.) If you aren't good enough on the day you don't win. If the Tigers managed to be the better team on the day more times throughout the season then they are the better team over the season whether you like it or not, as I said earlier, they don't start the ladder at round 10, nor do you get points for finishing second on the scoreboard but "you didn't play poorly." If they did, you might have a point.

If a team only wins 25% of their games, but lose the other 75% by 6 points or less, and another side wins 50% of them, and 50% of them they lose by 18 points or more, who is the better side? Probably the team that is on the edge of the 8 and likely to play finals.

Usually 87-90 points is enough to win a premier league season, so if a side wins their first 29/30 games, and then loses the last 8/9 on the trot are they a shit side because they didn't perform at the back end of the season? They still lift the silverware.

Yeah and on the imaginary "the season starts after round 10" ladder, that would make them a better team than us. It's easy to do that when you arbitrarily say that two fifths of the season doesn't count.

There is truth to this. We’re ending the season the way the Dragons started it. The way you finish a season overshadows the way you start it. Throw in the fact the Dragons are building nicely for next year, and we haven’t even got any building materials, the Dragons will cop less stick come the end of the season and over summer.

Nope they had a fluke 2 good months but everyone remembers the 09 eels more then the 09 dragons right ?? Who was better than ? Dragons because they won more games ? Or eels from 2 good months

If you’re gonna use analogies like that, what about us in 05. At the time it felt like the beginning of a dynasty. We weren’t even consistent for the whole season. The first half was not on par with every other season. We just happened to catch absolute fire on the run home and no one could touch us.

Honestly 2010 is the only consistent year this team ever has has 2011 was also a 05 run .

Having said all that eels and cowgirls benefited from a dodgy McIntyre system finishing 8th a lot different to us we finished top 4

If you beat the team on the day in a sudden death finals series, well yeah you are.

You could make that argument for 2005 as well.

If we're going to be selective im going to look at the first 15 rounds and say we're a much better side than the Dragons.
