This is where Benji is proving he’s not a head coach.

There’s no forward planning, no recognition of what his squad is actually capable of, and no contingent strategy for recruitment. He seems unwilling to learn from the failures of previous campaigns, and repeatedly fails to identify weaknesses until they become impossible to ignore.

A head coach should be anticipating these problems, not reacting to them once it’s already too late.

That’s horseshit . He relied on guys like hope , Murray , Bunty ,Geyer , and in the backs Toa to hold the fort. Not one of them , including Bunty has been even 0war to the median . This has lead to a massive falling away. You’d chuck sukkar in there as well, but he’s been slowly adjusting and getting better. Really , with may our all year , Toa was expected to be a lock on the right with turuva , with masi on the wing. Toa being horrendous was unexpected , and that has lead to endless shuffling , especially when Herbert was out as well.
You could say that’s poor planning , but which team plans to lose both starting centres one to injury the other tooo .l. I have no idea injury? Confidence? . For the season . And the first drops as well.
The issue as I said 6 weeks ago is not we didn’t have depth , as most said it was the best depth in ages prior to the season , but rather we chose the wrong players. To a man , all the players above were mainstays and consistent performers in q cup or koe. Ultimately these guys either underperformed , or were bad choices. Bear in mind I heard endless sweet nothings about Murray and others from so called nrl experts external to the club , so it’s Monday morning quarterbacking in my opinion .
You were like a fart in the wind on here the first 10 weeks . I wonder why that was ?

Good post. To me, the precipice and subsequent fall to mediocrity occurred with Luai's visit to Port Moresby. It is when the PNG acquisitions impacted more powerful teams that two or three coaches expressed concern. For a club with a roster that with good fortune with injuries could be expected to finish just outside the 8, this was devastating.

I reckon ya gunna need more than jousting sticks to wake him up. At the moment he is killing it in a bottom team and has an over inflated vision of where he is at, he has no pressure coming at him. In a better squad with at least 3 NRL srf’s then he’s probably a little more humble.
But for us we haven’t had more than 1 srf at the club in a decade so we’re probably in panic mode to keep him bcoz those five games have shown us what we been missing.

We have one outside back that has any attacking threat - Taylan May …

This was actually demonstrated last season where the backs were bad prior to Taylan May getting promoted late to first grade which improved them …so we had a massive injury risk headed into this year around Taylan getting injured which has come home to roost … at least they have taken a step to improved this with Averillo…too bad they didn’t see it coming a year ago

Toa was clearly injured most of the season in 2025 and played poorly …the decision to re- sign him late last year was a poor one …

They thought they could ride it out with Maka as a back up Center option … he now looks like damaged goods …

The decision to go into the season with Tristan Hope as the backup hooker is one of the worst personnel decisions in years …

These choices are on the coach and management..if it’s not their fault then who is to blame ?

I actually think Samuela and Latu will go to the Roosters,who are releasing 6 ex SOO players over next 15 months..Tedecso,Lenui,Crighton,DCE,,Watson and Tupou...thats almost $4mill worth of cap (to normal teams)
Targeting Samuela to replace Croghton is exactly what they need,and theres a gap in the halves for Latu who has been poorly managed by us...Robbo will promise more
Farnworth to be recruited for Fullback

The roooters have enough backrowers, did u watch the game last night, there backrow was fantastic and there very young, and there’s more there , so I can’t see them paying $800 when they got great kids coming through
