What age did you start feeling old?

Being 60yo now, I would have been considered as being at the end of middle-aged in the year that I was born, but Australian men have a 20% longer life expectancy since then, so we get an extra 5 years before being considered old.

Per @hank37w above, I have basically always seen anyone 15 years older as being old. As for feeling old, everything still works, though not as good as it used to and my 2027 begins with left knee replacement surgery that is also affecting my hip angle

My orthopaedic reckons my right knee has several years left in it, so hopefully surgery goes well and it helps me not feel old until until I officially get there.
Appreciate you adding an extra 5 years onto my 10 years putting me into the "not yet old" category, in your eyes at least. (not sure if that even makes sense) 🤣)

Seems I'm in good company here. I'm 59 in November, my brain thinks it's 1983 and we're 15. My memory thinks ... I forget ... My body is in charge and reminds me regularly that I am almost 60! 😂 I recently had bariatric surgery and have lost 30kg this year, and my knees and back are extremely thankful, as are my lungs!

I forget I am old, until something like my *little brother* turning 56, or my first baby turns 37 (this week) because how can they be 37 when I am only 16??

I'm 73 and my wife is 70 and we have a 1 yr old living with us and tearing the place apart. Too busy trying to keep her out of mischief to feel old.
Hi diedpretty
Don’t know how you do it.
Me (65)& the wife (63) have 2 grandkids (2&4) one day a week 7am to 4pm and once they leave we are shot.
Love them giving us many laughs during the day but also love when it’s time for them to go home.

I found turning 40 as psychologically the point when I started to think of myself as not being young any more , in any definition of the word…

Still going ok physically well past 50 now … trying to keep active mentally and physically and watch what I eat is where I’m at .. can’t drink the beers like I used too , that’s for sure ..takes it out of me the next day ..but will still keep it at it once or twice a week 😎

Nothing more can be done unfortunately except for whatever exercise I can do to keep muscle atrophy to a minimum. I do some hydro, though I could always do with more.

Further surgery would only restrict my movement further as a spinal fusion is the only option left on the plate & I have met people who have regretted getting that done.
Good luck Dazz. Mrs BF had 3 levels done, 2 fuses an a prosthetic, Dr said I will get you walking without pain.
It didn’t work.

I just turned 53, only ailments are from injuries i copped when i played League and Union 30yrs ago, lower back and knee (knee also from a motorbike accident) once I stopped playing footy and entered the workforce I did a great deal of international travel for many years and my health suffered, put on weight, lost muscle etc... About 6 years ago I stopped working for international companies and took a gig at a Aussie company so I only travel domestically and went on a health kick, ate better, went to the gym, walked more and now i can honestly say i feel better than i have in the last 20 years.

Keep it up mate, I'm in my 60's and have always been keen on fitness let's face it being a rock hopper as safe as the ocean may look sometimes you have to be able to sprint when danger looms.

Weight training and hiking min of 3 times a week does it for me and the hike needs to be of a level it gets you breathless, get some clean air into the lungs.

Don't eat too much crap and small amounts of alcohol, max 2 works for me.

Turning 55 soon, I’ve been feeling old since I hit 50. I occasionally go land-based fishing with my old man at Botany, which involves scrambling down and climbing back up massive rock boulders to reach our spot. Getting down was easy enough, but the climb back up was a brutal reminder of my limits, giving "rock climbing" a whole new, painful meaning that I will never, ever subject myself to again. The next morning I woke up, I can't move, my body ached like as if I went to the gym.

Thanks RHS. Wife and I head up to the blue mountains at least once a fortnight and complete a decent hike. Dropping about 34kg's 4 years ago ( I was a prop 6ft3 played at about 110kg's, blew out to 132, now down to 98) has made a massive difference. I feel a bit like Benjamin Button getting younger as I get older, a couple of my mates who are the same age jumped on the bandwagon 3 years ago and they too tell me how good they feel. Age is just a number. Doing the bloody long walk in Nov...35kms so gearing up for that.

You need to keep using it or you will lose it man, start slow and build yourself up to an acceptable level for your age, sometimes I don't feel like doing anything, that's when the power of the mind needs to kick in.

That's good advice.
Once you hit your sixties it's important to incorporate some strength training in the routine as you suggest.
At this age you don't want to do more than 3 sessions a week. Our bodies don't recover the way they did.
You can do light exercise every day like interval walking.

Diet wise it's all about the gut health. Fermented foods are worth their weight in gold. Things like sauerkraut and home made yoghurt. (No, not beer hah ha)

I'm 54, but strangely not sure I'll ever feel old until I'm on life support. The actual number is just... Weird. Just doesn't feel right? Does anyone else feel this?

I'm also firmly in the category of everyone thinking I'm at least 10 years younger than I am.
My only noticeable grey hair is in my beard and I have very few wrinkles.

My body is busted too though. Had a hip replacement just before 50, haven't been able to run for 20 years (acl reco wore out) and through many years of bad form doing weights both shoulders are shot.

Now I watch league and can't believe I used to actually love the physicality! 😂

It's hard to not balloon up in weight, but you do come to realise just how important diet is.

I haven't drunk alcohol in 8 years, don't eat nearly as much red rooster as I did when I was young and fit, and I can modify exercise. Latest fad for me is VR boxing - I really hope the neighbours (OAPs) don't happen to catch a glimpse of me in the back yard boxing imaginary people; They'll call the men in white coats! 😂

Okay. The age I first felt old is 54: I just realised now after saying "men in white coats" that only old people will get that... 😩
