The NRL will not improve under this shonk.

Not just PNG, all players have to be market value on the salary cap no matter where they play. Luai had a contract with us at $1.2m and therefore even if PNG paid him $900k, the 1.2m will be the amount shown on the cap. This is why teams like the roosters, storm, broncos very rarely allow players to "test the market" and its also why teams are desperate to get the deals done prior to Nov 1. Could also explain why Richo was very vocal about the offer he made to Galvin and why Galvin's management did not want to even look at it as it may have impacted Dogs ability to acquire him under the cap. They probably pay a percent of his freight with TPA's via Laundy and his mates.

PNG can only compete by offering tax-free money. Who wants to live in a high crime 3rd world shithole where they have to live in a compound because all the local doctors and engineers make it unsafe unless there is a barbed-wire fence around the compound. Tax-free money is the only reason the PNG club doesn't die. As soon as they remove tax-free money, the club dies.

They said last night on 360 if chiefs try and pay unders the nrl won’t lodge the contract so for Hudson they will need to match or beat Canberras 1.1m (market value) a season unless multiple other clubs come in offering less than 1.1m as that changes Hudson’s market value

The interesting thing is that most AFL clubs are owned by their members, who vote for the board and have a direct say in governance, rather than our antiquated system, which is driven by gambling dollars, leagues clubs and debenture holders.
For any new clubs like the Tassie Devils, the AFL will run governance until they become profitable. This also applies to any club that is losing money.
Yeah, the whole grass roots and club system would have to be re-worked, but the future benefits would ensure we're as competitive as the AFL in terms of attendance and profitability.

I agree that this is the rule ..but it seems to be rarely enforced previously …the likes of Reynolds at the Broncos and DCE this year at the Roosters are on way under market rates

You still haven’t addressed my point about Rugby Union ? Do you agree that any unhappy talented kid could just go and sign a deal there ? No other sport with a draft has to contend with that

I don't see any other clubs paying Hudson $1.1m. He's good, but he hasn't been great for the Raiders this year, and now that he's done an achilles, it's hard to see how he'll recover and get back to his previous form.
Unless there are some major player moves in the market come November 1, he'll take the Raiders deal or the Chiefs will have to match it.
In the end, there's no club that can compete with the Chiefs tax free offers.
Good, should not even be in the comp, what a joke.

I mean..that’s the whole reason the tax free thing was brought in right ? So the club doesn’t get flogged by 50 every week ..
It’s essentially always been something linked to the bid from the beginning but interesting before Luai was signed up , not many still believed anyone would go there … now 6 months later everyone is panicking that they are gunna sign a team of superstars and they need to pump the brakes on them ..I find the whole thing a bit funny actually

Maybe, however Rugby Australia is a very different system. Generally their teams are matured through the GPS, ISA and CAS school system and then the Shute shield. (Go the Woodies!)
It's very elitist, and they generally only cherry pick the best of the best NRL players.

the ARU can only afford a few elite players now …most of the others want to stay in the NRL because they can go and play where they want ..but if you are some talented kid getting drafted to play in Perth and are getting paid like $200k , then you might prefer to sign a deal to play Super Rugby on the same money

PVL has dug a massive hole for the NRL. Okay he negotiated a massive broadcasting deal for the game partly based on introducing two new franchises.
Now with PNG having the tax free incentives and a very shallow talent pool has made it basically impossible for Perth and some of the lower ladder teams to compete in the player market. Over the next few years blowouts will become more frequent as teams struggle to compete. Ratings will dive and the value of the game will decrease.
With PVL saying PNG have to pay market price, Iam not sure how legally he could enforce it as a player is free to go where he likes and it would be restraint of trade. Of course teams like the Chooks have been doing it for decades, paying unders on the books with top ups coming from other sources.

strange as Stefano allegedly had an offer of 1 million from tigers and went to melbourne for 800k to be coached under Bellamy
I can't see why Hudson young can't say he wants to take 900k and go to png to be coached by Willie Peters

This is where we see the manipulation, these guys never went to market so the clubs were not competing with true market value, rather a number based on their experience, age, injury history etc...Plus the Roosters and broncos have significant influence and therefore can get better outcomes than most other teams.

We’ll probably find that the ratings here for the PNG games will be through the roof …even if they are hated by everyone here ..( or maybe because of that)
