Steve Buscemi did something amazing.
The day after September 11, 2001, he showed up ready to help with his old firefighter uniform.
Long before he became a movie star, Buscemi had trained and served with Engine 55 in Manhattan in the early 1980s. When the towers fell, he quietly returned to his old firehouse and joined the effort to search through the wreckage.
For several days, Steve worked 12-hour shifts alongside firefighters.
He didn't want credit or cameras.
He refused interviews, avoided photos, and stayed in the background.
All he cared about was helping people in need.
Even as smoke and debris filled the air around him, Steve dug through dust and rubble.
But his kindness didn't end there.
Steve helped raise money and gave his time to support firefighters and their families.
He works with a nonprofit called "Friends of Firefighters."
They give free counseling, therapy, and support to firefighters and their families who are going through hard times.
Steve's story is part of the greater story of 9/11 and the firefighters and first responders who carried America through its darkest hours.
