Reschs will always be my favourite session beer. However, when the Belgian Beer Cafe in Cammeray was still open, there was nothing better than pairing their bacon, wine and cream mussels with a Hoegaarden Grand Cru.

Been drinking lots of Monsuta beer recently - Okinawan beer made by Orion. Not under license in Australia thank some eternal being as the big breweries just destroy any beer made here under license.

The Supreme n Lagers are good for summer; the dark beer great in winter.

Also discovered WA's Matsos Mr Matsumoto - very nice.

Yep, Japan and Central Europe (Germany, Czechia etc) - produce the best lagers in the world.

I’d also throw China into the conversation. I lived there for nearly a decade, and Chinese lagers are seriously underrated. Most Aussies know the generic Tsingtao, but with a domestic market of well over a billion people, there are loads of regional beers that barely make it outside China.

Some absolute gems that most people here will never even see, let alone try.

Monsuta is good as are pretty much all other Japanese beers.

I do find with Japanese dry lagers though I don't have to drink much and they give me a rotten headache the day after. I can drink most other beers to the point of excess and not have any dramas the following day but there's something in the way the Japanese lagers are brewed that does it to me. Asahi, Monsuta, even the 4 pines Japanese lager. They are unreal on a hot day though.
