Cricket Season Thread

I think it's obvious that the current batting standards of almost every single country aren't up to Test match standards as we know today.

That is not going to change. The batters are spending more time practicing their limited formats batting. The technique is there but the generations have changed where there is no temperament or patience for Test matches. Again, it's unlikely to change. You may get that odd batter every now and then, but overall that won't happen.

The balance between bat and ball in T20 is skewed towards batsman and in Tests, it's the other way.

I think something needs to change realistically, otherwise, this is going to bring a quicker end to Test matches.

I only half caught the conversation during the coverage when they went off about the new ICC rule

It was something about both teams agreeing to using a pink ball with the advent of bad light stopping play

Did anyone else hear this ??

Thanks in advance

I listened to Jason Krejza on SEN the other day, he is junior coach and very well respected, he was saying all the up and coming players dont even play 2 day cricket anymore, no one is getting a chance to build an innings. He also said parents are wanting their kids to play T20 cause thats where the money is..slow death of the best form of the game unfortunately. If a 34 year old with a recent average of 17 playing no red ball cricket then opens the innings we are in a lot of trouble as a batting unit. Every player for this TEST is over 30 years of age,,YIKES

Australian Test batting stocks are very low. Smith and Head as a no 5 are probably the only genuine test quality batsmen. In saying that Iam glad Renshaw is finally been given another crack at test level. I think he was dumped way too early by selectors. The trouble is, to we can find a solid opener and a fair dinkum no3, batting collapses will continue to be the norm. The other problem is shield cricket is no longer the best comp outside test cricket to develop the required skills to compete at test level.

“shield cricket is no longer the best comp outside test cricket to develop”

Which one is?

I think most countries are having a similar issue in regards to test batting talent other than maybe India are doing it better. Hard to know not having the advantage of watching a lot of Indian cricket.

Indian domestic league would be better just by weight of numbers. Sadly when I played you would come up against test players in grade cricket and most shield games were full of test players. One of my friends in his first top grade game came into bat with the score 4 for 1 on a green top with Thomo and Lenny Pascoe at their best. He topped scored with 28..7 snicks through slips

Mate if they don’t get a one day flat track these days they are in trouble and strife. Noticed WA are also struggling in their second dig

Yeah 3 for 50 chasing 201

The WACA was always well known for producing highways or really tough conditions for batsmen
Seen some very low scores at the WACA over the years

Yeah can be very daunting facing real pace

When I was out at Moura there was this young kid ...surname Bidgood ....real quick ...and came out to face at 3 for not many ....only had a couple of balls at him ....and I reckon that's the only 2nd time I've actually been scared on a sports field
Fortunately a massive dust storm came through and halted the game
The other time I was scared was playing footy at Woorabinda ....we got changed on the bus .....didn't warm up ....tarted with 12 players ....half-time on the bus .....finished the game with 10 players because of injuriex and got run over in the 2nd half ....straight to the bus at FT .....didn't stop till we got to the pub at the next town
Often wondered what would of happened if we had somehow won that day
Very PNG vibe would be the best way of putting it ...but we weren't celebrities

I’d loved to see someone walk down the pitch at the fastest bowlers in the world and tonk them like Haydos again even if it was a toad. 🐸 Go Matty Renshaw!!!

All I know is we called it a year ago.
