AUSTRALIAN POST CODES HAVE ROOTS IN AUSTRALIAN RADIO HISTORY
Ever wondered why Australian postcodes start with different numbers depending on the state?

It isn’t random. Apparently the first digit was based on Australia’s old radio station call sign system.
When four-digit postcodes were introduced in mid 1967, the first number corresponded with the radio call sign number already associated with each state.
2 = New South Wales
3 = Victoria
4 = Queensland
5 = South Australia
6 = Western Australia
7 = Tasmania

You can still see the same system in traditional AM Australian radio station names for example:
2GB = New South Wales
3AW = Victoria
4BC = Queensland
5AA = South Australia
6PR = Western Australia
7HO = Tasmania

Radio call signs came first. They had been using state identifying numbers since the 1920s, decades before Australian postcodes arrived.
The Northern Territory and Australian Capital Territory postcodes use unique ranges that break the standard 1967 radio call sign state number rule.

Nana had a bread knife with an adjustable arm to measure each slice's thickness. Back then, the bread was real, not the rubbish they serve us nowadays.

As bad as some of our bread can be it is far superior to the quality of bread in the USA,over there it does not deteriorate for months because of all the chemicals preservatives and sugar they put into the process of manufacturing it.It is all profit before quality in the USA.
