Sunderland remain bottom of the Premier League, despite ending a run of four successive league defeats with a 0-0 draw against Leeds United.

In blustery conditions at the Stadium of Light, neither side created many clear opportunities to score.

Sunderland had the only two shots on target during a goalless first half, with returning striker Brian Brobbey twice denied by Leeds goalkeeper James Trafford.

The England international also kept out two second-half shots from the edge of the area by Nilson Angulo.

Leeds' best moments in attack came after the interval, with Robin Roefs stopping a Tarik Muharemovic header from a corner and Ao Tanaka's low drive from just outside the box.

Roefs also denied substitute Sean Longstaff in the 90th minute to preserve a point for the hosts, while a couple of goalmouth scrambles in Sunderland's box during stoppage time eventually came to nothing.

Leeds' fifth draw in eight league matches leaves them seventh in the table, while Sunderland are two points adrift of 17th-placed Crystal Palace.

Hull City drew for the third successive home game in the Premier League as they were held to 1 all by Brentford.

The Tigers took the lead in the first half after they were awarded a penalty when Aaron Hickey fouled Tim Iroegbunam, with Brentford making a mess of playing out from the back. Oli McBurnie stepped up to fire home from the spot.

But Brentford pushed for the equaliser and were deservedly level in the 63rd minute when Dango Ouattara took advantage of poor defending to strike from close range.

That mobilised Hull into action once more and they had the better opportunities to grab the winner in the remainder of the game.

Mohamed Belloumi showed good feet inside the box to create space, but sent his shot into the side-netting while Mohamed-Ali Cho's low strike was kept out by the foot of Caoimhin Kelleher.

But there was to be no winning goal as Hull secured a point that maintains their unbeaten start at home in the Premier League, while for Brentford they remain undefeated on the road so far this campaign.

Brentford are sixth in the standings following this result, while Hull are 10th.

I’m wondering if we could adapt the Hull City kit for a new Wests Tigers jumper. Just thinking laterally !

That result is probably the biggest upset ever in pommie soccer,it would be the equivalent of the bottom side in NSW country football beating the Rorters Penrith or Brisbane in the NRL in a competition match. The difference in quality of the 2 teams is staggering.

Fleetwood Town pulled off one of the biggest upsets in Carabao Cup history as they beat Premier League champions Arsenal in an astounding penalty shootout to reach the quarter-finals.

Mikel Arteta's side were left shell-shocked when Aaron Loupalo-Bi gave the hosts - ranked 84 places below the Gunners in the football pyramid - an unexpected lead in the 21st minute.

Viktor Gyokeres pulled the visitors level after the break, but a wasteful Arsenal side could not put the game to bed and they were reduced to 10-men in the 86th minute when teenage starlet Max Dowman kicked out after a hefty tackle by Harrison Neal.

Jay Lynch made two sublime saves to stop Ben White and Martin Odegaard right at the death to take the hosts to penalty shootout.

And the Fleetwood goalkeeper pulled off more heroics as he stopped Bruno Guimaraes' spot kick before Conor Haughey sparked scenes of ecstasy at Highbury Stadium by converting the winning penalty.

Fans flooded onto the pitch, players swore in their post-match interviews, while manager Matt Lawlor was reduced to tears during the emphatic celebrations.

Fleetwood will find out their quarter-final opponents when the draw takes place following the conclusion of Chelsea's game against Liverpool on Wednesday.

Suk Arse an all !!!

'Biggest night in the club's history' for fearless Fleetwood

Given their league positions, form and pedigree there could only have been one winner predicted.

Fleetwood played Arsenal on Tuesday with 83 places separating the teams and most home fans arriving in hope rather than any expectation. But remarkably, it was the hosts who booked their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-final thanks to their penalty shootout win over the Gunners.

For the Cod Army, who won six promotions in 12 years in their impressive journey from non-league, this result will surely be remembered longest of all. Against the reigning Premier League champions, the club from a small seaside town in Lancashire created history in claiming one of the biggest cup upsets ever.

Aaron Loupalo-Bi gave the hosts the lead after 21 minutes but, after the break, Viktor Gyokeres pulled the visitors level.

And from there, they might have been expected to take charge but Fleetwood remained resolute, prospering from a wasteful performance from Arsenal that included Max Dowman being sent off for kicking out after a robust challenge from Harrison Neal.

Fleetwood, who sit 18th in League Two having won just once in their past eight league games, dared to dream and took the game to penalties, with fans spilling on to the pitch in the after Conor Haughey's decisive spot kick.

"The biggest night in the club's history in terms of opposition coming to town and we've managed to beat the champions," boss Matt Lawlor told Sky Sports in the aftermath of his side's stunning victory.

"I'm a big football fan and I watch National League all the way through to the Premier League, Championship. So for me it was a tough game to prepare for, but I'm just so glad that the lads have the feeling the way they are and took that performance in to make that town, the club, everyone proud."
