I can’t recall any recent mention in the media in respect of him staying at the club or him being on another’s club’s radar …certainly nothing has found its way to this thread over this past season ..

I guess we can all do the mental calculations that he is a free agent next week and they have re-signed just about everyone else except him and Latu …

Hopefully it’s a case that they are giving him a chance to check his market value …although perhaps a little strange they just signed up the others…

I thought he improved a lot over the course of this season …would be a shame to lose him now just as he is looking like an established NRL player

If he was to leave it seems like one of those cases where pole must have privately told the club he would be leaving for family reasons to go to Melb, so the deal will probably be done swiftly and quietly

Yes possibly …I’m aware he is from Melbourne , and there was some speculation he was going to go back the last time and he only re upped here for 2 years …perhaps Richo was guilt tripping him…

Having said that …since then he was always quoted as saying he was happy at the club …unlike several others who didn’t leave much doubt they were moving on at the first opportunity

Social Media has Sharks, Parra looking at him - I'm sure there's more....
 
Fonua has always been one of those young middle forwards that you think is going to make it in the NRL. He can bend the line and is our No. 1 metre grabbing middle forward. When he re-signed 2 years ago I was confident he would stick solid despite the noise about him heading back home to Melbourne. The same rumours persist now 2 years later. Once again I think he will stick with us. He will be a key player for us in the middle of the ruck and we need his go forward. He should be our No. 1 signing priority.

In 2025, he and Terrell were in the top 3 starting prop combinations early in the season. Then he got injured. It took him a long time to bounce back from that

Tend to agree mate, if he was a prop with the same ability then a swap would work, we are already weak in the hard running prop area.

I don't like it and before anyone says move Sam to the middle, it's not guaranteed to work.
 
think Fonua said april/may that he wanted to resign -if the money was right , but the club is focused about getting other deals done above him and he will have to wait his turn.
Certainly hasn't earned a mega deal yet - ive never been his no:1 fan .He only stepped it up 2nd halve with a contract pending
Potential to be a rep player in a few years if he wants it - so far i just see a player going through the motions
