150k basically is minimum wage
- and I'm pretty sure you're only allowed a few players (4 maybe) at that level.

I'd be surprised if Heath was that far down last years Roster.

Yeah it's odd especially given the depth now in positions he can play.

Fullback: Bula, Attard, Bryenton, Nassar (Averillo as well)
5/8: Latu, Javon, Doeuihi, Averillo, Bryenton (possibly Schuster)
Lock: Twal, Mann, Brailey, Seyfarth, Sione, Lanyon, Murray, Havea Jr, Van Drie (possibly Doeuihi)
Hooker: Api, Brailey, Hayward, Lanyon, Havea Jr (even Mann can be thrown in there)

The only option I'd be ok with is if Mason is now physically trained & coached to be a Kurt Mann protege. High energy lock who can pinch hit at dummy half in short bursts & fill in as depth in the halves during a game if injuries strike.

No more fullback & cannot defend at centre.

And I hope LOW dollars if true?
But still a waste of a top 30 spot. Could do better from outside cathment area.

Mason and Charlie Murray biggest wasted spots.... surely there are better guys who will take minimum wage than those two.

Not every player in the top 30 can be a star. There have to be some on close to minimum wage.

I could be wrong, but I reckon Mason will be transitioned to a specialist 14 to learn from Kurt Mann and see how he progresses as a Conner Watson style of impact player to cover 9 and 13 as well as numerous positions in the backs if required.
I think sone supporters are under estimating the importance of these type of utility players and overlooking Heath’s speed off the mark and tackle busting ability.
No doubt he needs to improve his defence, but I think you will find there are plenty of better judges than me who are confident he can make the required defensive improvements.
It doesn’t make much sense if we are re-signing him to a top 30 contract and planning on playing him fullback with the emergence of Attard and Bryenton.

I know speaking to his dad the Dogs wanted him and he had a lot clubs after him. Mikey never wanted to leave us to begin with, the Scott Fulton issues with Benji at NRL level saw him go, he was the Harold Matts player of the year when he did go and Conti followed soon after. Fulton lost us several gun juniors like the Large and Clarke brothers, with Nasser and Conti its some decent juniors we lost. Hopefully we can get a few back.

Ffs, Fulton was a bone headed decision who cost the club big time, and even worse with the juniors it seems (excluding the fainus)

Yep - imagine building a team around a guy that refused to play for you while the team is still in contention. Who then dogged his team mates to the media and was welcome back into first grade with zero consequences..... Makes perfect sense ......

Yup perfectly said, i still shake my head over this months after it happened. Shaun said in his post today that we need better standards, well if i remember correctly Benji said in the preseason on that youtube video, if you dont hit the standards your out...well we know how that went....

Yes 💯 not even close to being a 7. He actually doesn't have a position in the staring 13. If you were to have him in the squad he would make a perfect 14.

He is also injured alot, serious injuries too. I'd be surprised if he has played 50 % of the total games since he signed with us .....
