SEA EAGLES SHOP STAR TO TIGERS

Wests Tigers have been offered Manly half Jamal Fogarty as the Sea Eagles salary cap continues to bite.

This column reported last week that the Sea Eagles needed to re-jig their roster with a host of players potentially up for grabs.

One of those players is Fogarty, who is just one year into a three-year contract. The Sea Eagles believe they have three starting halves in their ranks in Fogarty, Luke Brooks and rising star Joey Walsh.

Brooks was offered the chance to move on but he is still recovering from a knee injury. Manly’s season nose-dived when Brooks was sidelined with some believing a Brooks-Walsh partnership could serve the club better until young ace Onitoni Large is ready to play regular first grade.

Walsh and Large are among the rising stars the Sea Eagles consider off-limits.

The Tigers have ruled out making a move for Fogarty – who turns 33 next month — but they could be tempted if Manly covered a large chunk of his $700,000 contract.

The Tigers are already paying ex-skipper Jarome Luai about $500,000 to play for the Eels next year.

Adam Doueihi will be one starting half next season for the Tigers while his partner remains up in the air with the likes of new recruit Jake Averillo, Jock Madden, Javon Andrews and Latu Fainu.
Fogarty on a reduced contract is ok I guess not at full freight.

But I would have much preferred him in his raiders form.

It's not close as far as organisation and kicking, Fogarty is one of the better halves in the league at this.. He is also absolutely no running threat and offers minimal creativity.
Id be fine if its Fogarty in, Doueihi out. I don't want both Fogarty and Doueihi on the books.

I would think its more that you cant have Jock and Fogarty on the books. Doueihi is a completely different player and covers so many spots. Dont get me wrong, I want Doueihi gone, but I dont see it as a Fogarty in Doueihi gone scenario.

The question is, do you go Fogarty at 33 or Jock at 27? Fogarty is the better player of the 2 but not by a large margin. For a strongly built guy, his running game is just above Jock and defensively he has had his struggles surprisingly. He cracks under pressure whenever the game is on the line, while Jock twice has got us home under gripping pressure.

While Jamal is overall the better player, I think im sticking with Jock being 6 years younger.

Yep - imagine building a team around a guy that refused to play for you while the team is still in contention. Who then dogged his team mates to the media and was welcome back into first grade with zero consequences..... Makes perfect sense ......
Sad but true FFS, Benji must grow a pair! at the very least he should have been taxed /and or dropped .. he's good on his day but that isn't often and he's good not amazing.but desperate teams with no depth make poor decisions aye.

I get you but I don't see Madden and Fogarty in the same team. I can see them being in the same club. If you bring Fogarty here you are unifying the play style between ressies and first grade and Madden steps into firsts if Fogarty were to miss games.
Then I want to ensure Latu has a starting spot in the halves. That should be ahead of Doueihi. But Doueihi then becomes a 14 and next man up in the centres or 6 before Andrews eventually surpasses him. I'm not sure Doueihi would accept that role and he is surplus to requirements if he doesn't.

I thought he looked more threatening when he ran this year than he has in a few years
Obviously stats don't tell the whole story but least average running metres this year than any of the past 10, with the exception of 2022. I thought he combined really well with Ben Trbojevic but I think he has always fed his lead runners very well when they actually know what they're doing, which has been rare for most his career.

And then what about Javon? Is he our cup 6, if so what’s that mean for the future pairing of Latu and Javon? Like the thinking tho

I’d definitely take him if we can fit him in. The only natural 7 we have is Madden and he’s not at Fogarty’s level.

If we got him I would be shopping AD around.

Jamal and Latu, and a large amount of injury luck, yes please.
