Celebrity Encounters

I’ve met Jason Taylor and different footy people.

Jason is a very nice guy and I found him to be considered and surprising intelligent.

Neville Glover, absolute legend. He was a cop for awhile. He told me that during the height of the footy show etc, some of the celebrity legends weren’t nice to him and got the big head syndrome.

Lad at work went to Matty John’s show and was hoping to meet stars, but they didn’t want to engage with the audience.
It was a bad experience he said, they felt like cattle. Not going back.

I bumped into Beau Ryan when he was doing his on-street interviews and I went to walk away quickly and he was laughing and I turned around and smiled at him and he was smiling and waved back.

Ian Hindmarsh, thanked him for his career outside of Peter Wynns score. Peter Wynn, met him many times. He was and is a big fan of Madge.

DWZ I got a selfie with him on a McDonald happy day by chance. Champion. I wished him well with injuries. He hugged me for the photo and I had my arm around him as a mate and fyi, the guys got a body of concrete. It was so nice to see him re-emerge.

A few more encounters I will post up later if anyone is interested.

All these celebs are just like you and I. I was raised to believe that deep down no one is better or worse than anyone else. That’s served me well in life so far ( I think!).

I’ve got a couple of celeb rellies, but I don’t see them very often at all. I am closer the Vietnamese bakery lady. She’s awesome.

Neville Glover was a Police Prosecutor. He reckons he has appeared in every Local Court in NSW. Rothmans medal winner Mike Eden is a lawyer in Albury.

I was lucky enough to meet Kosta Tzyu at a golf day in Wagga..Very humble and pleasant person to speak with, signed my golf cap and wished me all the best...A true champion and I also now know why he was called the baby faced assassin....
Met Geof Lawson at a charity golf day at Wagga as well....Arrogant and had little time for people unless he knew them, apparently he was a Wagga boy growing up,not sure...
Played golf with Peter Sterling, Mario Fenech and Fatty Vautin at another charity golf day in Wagga...Sterlo is a deadset champion and had plenty of time for us as he was born and bred in Wagga,Mario is a funny fella but had time to talk and laugh with everyone...Fatty was a bit arrogant and came across as someone who HAD to be there and couldnt wait to get back to the city..I didnt have much time for him...
Also met Shane Flannagan at Moss Vale Golf club a few years back,he was courteous and had time to say hello and a bit of a conversation...He seemed happy to talk when he had the chance...
One of the nicest guys I met was Jamie Lyon,he played golf at Moss Vale one day
and was very happy to talk and sign some merch for a mate of mine that was a Manly fan,Jamie was capt at the time...

Met quite a few when I had a shop in Bondi Junction.
Greg Chappell rented an adult video. The fun part was asking him for I.D. and maintaining a poker face.
Isla Fisher was a nice kid.
Rebekah Elmaloglou was a good kid. She's about 4 foot 11 and her dad was shorter than her.
Anthony Cummings asked if he could pay his late fees next time, the week after he'd won the Oaks. That pissed me off. His wife was the opposite, a lovely lady.
Joe Bugner was a good bloke. David Liddiard was a good bloke.
Sonia Todd never spoke a word. Cold as ice.
The Cummings boys were both well behaved respectful lads.
Mark Gable of "Run to Paradise" fame was a top guy despite letting his 300 kids run around the shop. He was deaf as a post though, you had to yell at him to be heard.
There were too many to remember but 99% were just like every other customer and gave back what you gave them.

In 1973 while staying 6 weeks at a 5 star UK hotel I met Diana Ross who arranged a couple of tickets to her show
That same year moved to Northampton and joined their county cricket club and became friends with Wayne Larkins who later became English opening batter and in 1977 while staying at the Melbourne Hilton at the same time as the Centenary Test bumped in to him again and went to dinner with 6 members of the English team incl Gower and Dilley
What I remember was asking them who is the greatest bowler and in unison they all said Denis Lillee ! Next day back at hotel around pool had an argument with Botham who was making insulting comments about Australia

Botham has a knighthood now and has been a relentless campaigner for charitable causes.

Uses all his fame to help others.

A superstar in my book. I hope you let him win the argument!

Thanks everyone for sharing these encounters. How a celeb treats the fellow person says a lot about them, but they can have bad days as well.

I used to know Jon Wilson back in the day before he went to catalans and he is a fantastic fellow.

Really loved fans and was grateful for the privilege of playing NRL.

Lived in the eels catchment, Mark Tookey was his best man.

ESL may be the second tier comp, but the amount of cash floating around is stupendous.

If he can get a visa, after his ICO is finished, Junior Amone should head there.

Not sport related, but i grew up with the first bachelor, Tim. Our two families are super close, used to go on holidays together. So, I used to have to stand in my speedos next to him... You can bet I never got a look in from the ladies!

Super nice guy, as well as his family. They're all genetically blessed.

I’m surprised to hear you say Beefy is a good man.
Always struck me as an arrogant arsehole who despises this country and its people.

Met Lauryn Eagle at the casino one time. She full on posed for about 5 photos and had a long chat with me. I must say, she was stunning.

I'd like to think she chatted so long because I'm especially handsome and I've been telling myself that for 10 years. Thanks for the ego boost Loz.

Elly May Barnes - Jimmy youngest daughter, has been doing a cabaret show in some venues in the city on a semi regular basis. Before his last op Jimmy and Jane, Ian Moss and family and a host of their different musical friends would turn up to support her and make a guest appearances onstage. Jimmy and Jane happy to chat to people at the end of the show and thank them for supporting Elly May. Mossy a bit more reserved but didn't fob anyone off. Good people.

When I was in Greenwich Village New York City - was living there, saw - Bill and Hillary Clinton on my corner block - a few metres away - and turned the other way... as if they are better than us. Worked with Woody Allen - a reading also in NYC, Jason Patrick from Lost Boys, Frank Whaley from Pulp Fiction and the Doors, Jack Black sound stage test, Scott Glen from Silence of the Lambs.... had lunch with Fidel Ramos Philippine president at the time with other people in Manila. And others i cannot recall right now. Appreciate some of their work but was never overawed or overwhelmed by them. They all use toilet paper.

I have been lucky to meet a number of sporting celebrities over the years (Cricket, League, Golf and Union). But the three that stand out for me were none of those.
My family shared some beach space on the Hawkesbury River where we used to waterski. The family next door were the McMillans. Mary the mother was the World Champion barefoot skier (and endurance skier) as a 5 year old she taught me how to ski.
I also met another World Champion Giacomo Agostini 15 time motorcycle World champ, he was a friend of a friend and I got to sit on his race bike he was tuning for a race at Oran Park.
But the one that was kinda out of the ordinary, my dad worked at Hobartville Stud Farm (Richmond) and I got to sit on a Horse called Tulloch (36 wins from 53 starts) as a an 8 year old (me not the horse), the horse was so dam big it scared the crap out of me.

I suppose the older you get the more people you have met in your lifetime

That's shady as hell ay. No wonder he hasn't
been revered by the public or on TV since the
show last aired. Bit disappointed 2 hear that

I remember when the Stones toured Australia a few years ago, I heard a story that they were having dinner at a restaurant in Melbourne and left through the back door that lead out to a side ally. They then cut through a TAB to get to their car. Can you imagine sitting in a TAB having a punt, and Jagger and Richards come waltzing in. They seemed personable. One of the dudes there posted a selfie that he took with Keith and said how Keith had given him his hat.

Lawson went to Mount Austin High in Wagga. Turvey Mortimer kept wickets. Briefly met Lawson at a do one night. Yes, arrogant wanker.
I got bailed up at Manuka one day by an old woggy looking bloke wearing a fedora. South Africa were doing some fielding drills after the game. Fella says to me Wouldnt have caught Dougie Walters doing that in his day. I'm thinking fair call. He the yelled out Hey Dougie. Wouldn't have caught you doing that. Turned around and there was Dougie, blithered, fly down, piss stains. Lennie Pascoe then tried to sign me up to getting him to MC a trivia night. He was a bit of a Mario Fenech type and not like I had would have expected.
