Stefano Utoikamanu #241

Stefano needs to have a big game we need a forward putting on a big shot or tackle bust then the rest of the team will feed off the energy. This team lacks so much confidence if we can scramble well defensively it will give us confidence knowing we can hold them out.

“Stefano needs to have a big game”, seems to be a standard line now.
Maybe it’s time for him to actually do it( and forget the back chat), if he’s angry then take it out on his opposite number.

We seem to have this thing, where we get these so called "good" players like Joe O and Stefano and still come dead set last. I won't include Klemmer or Bateman in that list because both seem to be performing on the field.

Yet so many of these suposebly good forwards we get, who show good attitude or something... and we just don't see the output.

It's either US, our club and training and our ability to push people to their prime.
OR
were just praising average.

Man we need a wressling coach, a tough one. Perhaps if this one is available (pick the sitcom reference)

Good point!
i think it's the last one Craztcat, we seem to praise the Average but that's what we are so used to now unfortunately, we are happy with average instead of above average?

Maybe with Madge in control we won't be losing so many players to S O O.

Depends if he wants to win or not....
We've had very few SOO calibre players in our existence.

Even the Players the forum is certain are the calibre of an Origin Player,
Get there (With us or after) and are then swallowed in that Arena...

We should be trying to get the best wrestling coach on the planet, it’s the way the game has gone.
When the riff are on, they are wrestling the opponent back towards their own goal line and onto their back, the entire tackle, with every arm, leg or bit of leverage the can muster.
We are lucky if we can get em to the ground.

same as last week, if Stef and Klem don't go after Cronulla early we're done for. having Pole in place of Seyfarth helps to no end but if Stef doesn't produce in his first stint like his second in Canberra then it's going to be a long night.
Were talking Cronulla though. They are always a tough side with a stack of forwards.
If we only loose by less then 2 tries I think we are kinda doing better then expected.

Was it 2023 or 2022, backend of the season at half time we were neck n neck with Cronulla. Then they just walked over us as our team gets gassed.

My memory was they got a leg up by officials which told in the long run.

Why is it, we always find a reason to ALWAYS blame the officials rather than blame the club as we have not had the cattle to match it with the top 10 teams in the comp for years and years.
Until we somehow purchase some big bodies forwards, and backs we will be at the wrong end of the table for years and years.

I don't ALWAYS blame the officials. I just responded to the game that crazycat quoted. The one thing you can be sure of in the NRL today is that 50/50 calls don't go 50/50. Cameron Ciraldo is now finding out the same, now he is not associated with Penrith. Remember the North Qld game a couple of years ago. That had nothing to do with our cattle but a lot to do with officials. He is supposedly our no 1 referee these days.

After Stefano copped a big knock the very first hitup of the game and seemed in trouble I was concerned. Thought to myself we will see how tough he is now. For him to go on and have his best ever game in the NRL was a huge positive sign. His intent from start to finish is exactly what we need week to week. He showed his toughness.

Stefano is a beast. He’s young but a monster. Tigers have to keep these young players. Pole, Sam Fainu and Stefano are weapons. They need to play together for a long time. Powerful forwards with good leg drive are hard to find.

I’ve been disappointed in Steph for a while now as he is big and powerful but doesn’t take the opposition pack on like he hates them. He makes his meters and tackles but not with enough or sometimes any venom attached. He then takes his break and comes back out to pad his stats in the second half, gaining praise in losing teams that I often feel is unwarranted.

Last night though…he lived up to his hype and potential. Last night he was an elite, aggressive front rower who had the sharks worried. If Api hadn’t played a near perfect game, Steph was my MOM.
I don’t think I’ve ever said that before. Well done to him.
