Wests Tigers Home Ground Mega Thread

I wonder what the ticket price would have been at Accor?

I would have thought that a deal at Accor would be pretty much subsidised allowing for ticket prices to be a bit more reasonable than the $55 being charged at Leichhardt to stand on the hill.

I believe that playing at Accor was pretty attractive for the club in the past from a financial point and was good for members because there were reciprocal arrangements meaning entry for some away games eg. Souffs, Dogs. were also included.

The management of Accor (then ANZ) were selective and did not want every home game played there, only the ones they thought would draw the biggest crowd, (eg. Souffs/Canterbury /Parramatta) so we still did not have it as our sole home ground.

Personally If we were forced to have only one home ground I would have been happy for it to be Accor/ANZ/Olympic Park, whatever you want to call it, provided we were given the financial incentives and reciprocal member benefits to take all our home games there with the proviso that all the improvements with respect to making it a rectangular ground with the curtaining, steeper seating etc. that were originally proposed.

I think it would have been ideal due to it's central location, availability of public transport, (especially when public transport was included in the ticket price), close proximity to Concord etc.

Then the dumb bastards went and built nice home grounds for the Roorters and the Parra-sites instead.

Balmain boy has the idea and the money.
All very sensible KT ( and BB) but not looking very likely. And where is that money you talked about ?

I’m a wests tigers fan first. That’s how I arrived.

But my feeling is that there “will be rivers of blood” if we dare abandon LO.

Richo locks us out from my cold dead beanie.

Exactly. The reason being it is a better experience!
I think it all relates to your definition of a better experience.
For all the years my mates and I went to LO, and that was a bloody long time, I always paid extra to stand in front of the Latchem Robinson stand, coz I always felt I got a better view, and experience, than being jammed on the hill.
Just my personal preference.

I thought I heard/read the other day that the Rosehill project is now officially
a dead duck ?
Waller played a major role but need to double check that.
I dont think Kogarah will get any more money and it seems, whilst we are all hopeful, any funding unlikely for us, PVL or not.
Minns made comment that it would need to be a double issue coz if LO was improved then we’d be on his door asking for CS money.
Interesting question, if somehow he did say he would finance LO but not CS, how would our supporter base react to that ?
Off topic but selling Rosehill would be complete foolishness.
thank Jehovah that idea died in the arse.

Been mentioned a few times but there will be zero political or community (local and broader) appetite for dropping millions on stadiums. Times are tough. We needed to get in 3 or 4 years ago I think.

Hopefully the club can build some momentum at these local grounds before having to move to a bigger stadium (probably Accor).

he would have to finance both LO and CSS
I don't think the rosehill vote has happened yet, waller and gai are not fans. They were thinking of building a track at homebush from what I heard as an option

Ok. It’s time to make the definitive statement on this. I get a bit tired of hearing about South Sydney and Eastern Suburbs and the whole pride of the league BS.
Balmain and Wests are also foundation clubs with a history as rich or richer than any other team in the NRL. That’s why fans love the atmosphere at LO. It’s a throwback to what Rugby League is to many fans. It’s not a “product”, or entertainment, or for the corporates. It’s an old fashioned, blue collar, tribal game where supporters feel a connection to place, even if they no longer live there. My father grew up in Church Street, a stone’s throw from where LO now is. He turns 90 this year. When he was born I think the Tigers were still at Birchgrove. His father and his grandfather were from the same area and were also Balmain Tigers supporters. I have relatives who are from the Lidcome area and they have the same thread with Wests.
I live in Japan FFS, and I still get emotional when I see the full house at LO go up. It reminds me of the things that are precious - family, loyalty, sense of place, and in a world where everything is disposable, a constancy that is more important than wins and losses.
The Wests Tigers are Rugby League royalty by virtue of the history of the joint venture clubs. They were there when Rugby League in Australia was born.
Home games should be split between Leichhardt and Campbelltown. These grounds need funding. Write to the local members, state and federal and demand action.
Penrith got $300m. They don’t have a fraction of the history of Balmain or Wests. Let’s not allow recency bias cloud our perspective on that.

They slug us for tax at every fkn corner, not much to expect some of it to go back into community facilities. Not everyone is using schools and hospitals.

No money from Minns. If Leichhardt's council gave the ground to the NRL they would consider funding.

Wests Tigers do not have a home ground, spiritual or otherwise. LO .may be sacred turf for Balmain supporters but not Wests supporters. CO also needs an upgrade but for fans convenience it's the pick. Railway station next to the ground, M5 very close and the Leagues club next-door. Plenty of parking as well. It would only need another grandstand and some upgraded facilities in the old stand. With a competitive team and heaps of local junior's coming through fans would pack the place

It always comes back to the same old argument about Wests and Balmain !
So you’re suggesting let’s get funding for CS and forget LO.
I think this is why Richo might be thinking of dumping both grounds and saying “ we are the Wests Tigers and this is where we play “. Wherever that is.
Balmain and Wests are dead, except in memory , and in their place we have this shiny new club called Wests Tigers.
We’ve now been going 25 years and are still talking about this merger and the ramifications.

I have a question, and whilst it’s not exactly the right thread, I’m going to ask it in the hope that someone can answer.
Where do the Tigers go after the game to celebrate or commiserate, is it Wests Ashfield, or do they have another little hideaway ?
As Wests Ashfield is THE current Leagues Club, is it there ?
