OFFICIAL Pathways - KOE General Discussion

I'll take it even further, I'll punt on Naden to play 6 next week in first grade against the Dragons. If you suggested that 2 weeks ago I would fall over laughing, but he relished the responsibility of being in the halves and his long kicking game is impressive. Obviously its a stop gap option but for one week I reckon he can have a positive influence on our performance in what shapes as a hugely important game for both teams.
Pretty wild, I didn't think he had a kicking game in him, but his boot is enormous.

Jordan Miller made his Flegg debut yesterday and his Cup debut today. unreal performance today in Cup against grown men for the first time considering those circumstances.

18 months of intense conditioning + big minutes in Cup next week and we’ll have a homegrown wrecking ball for first grade.

I actually could see him getting some minutes off the bench next to Twal and Klem towards the end of the season in an impact burst type role. He is effective with the ball, he does need to work hard on his lateral defense and rushing up though.

Agreed. A lot of people seem unhappy that he isn't ready now. We need to give the kid time to let him develop in an NRL system. The wait will be worth it!
he is arguably the biggest project we have in and around first grade. as long as he stays injury free we will shed the kilos off his frame and fix a few things up. he has an incredible motor as is, but it will improve further in time, as will his lateral movement. his ballplaying skill is off the charts for a man that big as well.

people tend to forget that Jordan was as big a prospect as Galvin and Da Silva in that undefeated Matts side. he was never going to get to grade early, but in the next 12-18 months he is going to start banging the door down.

Miller making his debuts in both Flegg and Cup on consecutive days and some still want to complain? It's exactly what he needs, game time in his age group while also getting mins against men.

Everyone at the club knows he needs to lose a few kgs, which will aid his mobility.

The fact he could make an impact against a strong Storm pack is great progress

Don't tell the doomsdayers.

This game is turning out just like how you expect it would with an extremely young and inexperienced forward pack.
They are running the ball strongly, but no resilience in defence.
What are we doing playing Naden in the halves ? He’s trying and not doing a terrible job, but he’s signed to the club as a tall, fast dangerous ball runner that’s what he’s good at, not playmaking.
Miller has run the ball very strongly off the bench, problem is he’s tired after 5mins.
If we were prepared to somehow only play him for 10 - 15 minutes maximum he would do some damage with his strong ball carries even at NRL level, it’s nearly worth the risk and just hope we have plenty of the ball while he’s on the field.
He will be a very good player IF he ever gets himself fit.
G'day Vicious...how can a player be allowed to be unfit?
Has he just come back from injury or something?

Anyone provide some insights to the next man up based on cup form? Bateman and S Fainu likely out this weekend. Seems to be Kepoa and Matamua who will be next in. Any smokeys based on Cup form?

Cup struggles pretty dramatically as soon as they have a few players out.

I’d say Simpkin, Matamua and Kepaoa come in this week (if Bateman + Sam and Latu Fainu are all out).

I think Sione Fainu would’ve been a big chance of making a debut ahead of Matamua, but hasn’t played a game yet this year due to a foot injury.

Had an ankle injury for most of the pre-season, if I remember correctly.

At his size (around 130 kg), they can be hard to get right.
WOW!!!!...130 kgs...WOW!!!! he's a genuine big boy.
Yeh, I can imagine an ankle injury would be hard to get right.

Shame Tumeth hasn't really kicked on. Would of expected him to be pushing first grade by now. Is size the issue?

Yeah, I see Sukkar as a better second row prospect than Tumeth.

Size is the issue and he doesn't seem capable of getting any bigger either, I think he just has a really small frame for a forward.

I see him as a Hudson Young type of player.
He has scored quite a few tries over the past 18 months, but looks low on confidence at the moment, maybe a coaching issue.
These smaller aggressive type of forwards generally take a bit longer to become regular NRL players as they need to refine their game to overcome their smaller stature.
Not forgetting added size and speed is great, but there is a large number of players that have the size and speed, but lack the aggression and/or energy to make it useful.

delighted to see Luke Laulili'i and Jordan Miller retain their spots in the side. I don't think any of us have really touched on how good Luke looked on Sunday afternoon. he may well be an NRL debutant by season's end if he continues on this current trajectory. powerful, speedy and silky.

Sukkar looks the goods to me.
Not real explosive but very steady, bit of a Boyd Cordner type, not as sound defensively as Boyd was but good line runner and safe pair of hands at the line.
