Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

This blunder from Manly really needs more attention.

Great call by us to not sign him, Manly gifting him an extension on good coin when he was in terrible form was truly madness.
Only if the price is right

Man I disagree with this. Penriths hobbit wingers are a massive reason for their success in my opinion. The metres they and Dylan Edwards make coming from their own end consistently put penrith in good field position, while giving the forwards a break. I rarely see him out jumped or out muscled and he is an excellent finisher. Perfect modern day winger.

Very easy to look good on that right wing for Penrith, their wingers get the ball with so much space.

I can count on one hand the amount of time our wingers have received the ball in space so far this year.

Turuva is also 21, at 19 he was carving up nsw cup & he has been very good at NRL level since making the jump up.

The kid has a high work rate and knows how to finish at nrl level. He is a walk up starter everyday of the week for us.

No doubt he can play, but it appears he’s asking for centre type money and ideally wanting to play as a centre if he cannot play in his favoured fullback position.
He’d know there are next to no clubs looking for a fullback, so playing as a centre would be his best option to maximise his salary.
I don’t doubt his attacking ability if he played as a centre, I do have doubts how he’d go defensively up against much bigger and stronger centres such as his current Panthers team mates in Tago and May.
Andrew Johns has mentioned a few times recently that the current role of a centre is like a battering ram who is fast enough to hit holes, make line breaks and score tries.
Much like an edge forward only they defend wider of the ruck, so don’t have to do as much tackling.

Not at $800k s year he’s not-in my opinion
It wouldn't be at 800k.
Manly will probably try to have a revised price placed on him by the NRL so a potential suitor could get him at a cut price and they wouldn't have to contribute anything.

Penriths back 3 benefit MASSIVELY from Penrith brutal defensive structure. They force teams to kick long from inside their own half and whoever gets it just sprints it back for an easy 30m.
Don't get me wrong I think Edwards is an incredible player, so smart and likely one of the fittest blokes in the league. To'o is a gun, and Turuva can certainly play too. But I think the success these guys have is a symptom of their success, not the cause of it. Their defence is relentless, everything else feeds off that.

It all comes down to the price $
Schuster could end up a great pick up IF the penny finally drops for him he would be a very dangerous edge forward.
I thought benji was keen to get him here for this season so he might be able to get him at a much cheaper price than what they were talking about before he resigned with Manly.
But if we were to get Schuster, it means we are signing another player that we 'hope' will be the real deal.
Haven't we signed to many of them in the past and they've been anything but the real deal.
