Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Aggressive and dominant middles create the space for the outside backs to do their thing.

I don't think our outside backs have the opportunity to get into open air as much as other teams do, but guys like Bula, To'a, Latu and May have shown they can move if given the chance.
It's so obvious with us—everyone blames our halves for our poor red zone attack, but it really comes down to our forwards not finding their front and providing a fast play-the-ball. I love Terell, but geez, he moves in slow motion when he gets up to play the ball. Watch Makasini's play-the-balls from the weekend when he was taking the dirty hit-ups—the kid was lightning quick and made the rest look slow in comparison. Kit is another with a fast play-the-ball, but unfortunately, he got it wrong and hasn't been seen in first grade since. Maybe this is on Benji for training them to be too conservative in the play-the-ball.

How often do you see teams score tries when the opposition compresses, and the winger goes in untouched? That’s all the forwards compressing the line. How often do our wingers go in untouched? Very rarely.

This “If we sign all the brothers, then none will go anywhere” thing has always been a crock. Might work for brothers who are mediocre. If they are elite, bigger clubs will always come calling. They want to make money first and foremost. Then they want to win. The bro culture is a distant third. Supporters tend to think the bro culture is all that matters. Easy to say when you are emotionally invested and don’t have the potential to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Ok I will bite! Taylan has to my knowledge no history in Rugby Union. From an outside centre perspective he prefers to take the man on the outside shoulder. That is a very large no in Rugby as it totally isolates the support players and makes it far easier for the opposition to turnover possession. It would take a significant time to overcome this tendency. In addition he will have no on ground skills and tackling is another issue. I cannot see a rugby club being interested as it would take a number of years to reach the standard.

I should add that this does not mean Taylan is not a good footballer but the age demographic, time involved does not make it an attractive proposition for a coach or club.
Lol thanks for biting, I appreciate the analysis - all valid points.

Whilst I understand what you are saying, I think the R360 competition will be happy just to field teams to get the momentum of the competition moving... If someone is half decent, I can see them taking a risk .. especially someone as talented as Taylan.. money isn't an issue.. these guys wipe their ass with the money they are throwing around ..

I could be completely wrong, just my thoughts..

Appreciate the insights again mate

Terrell has repeatedly said that Taylan is his own man, and that any decisions he makes have little to do with him. Don't get your knickers in a twist fretting over Taylan's actions having an impact on Terrell. They won't.
Agreed.
Honestly if it means we keep Terrell and Taylan, I'd be ok with us sacrificing some $$ to throw at him to play KOE or even depth for NRL... Keep em happy.. a bit like the Fainus - Sione wasn't much when we signed him but he's been one of our better players this year...

Just an avid fan who knows a thing or two about the sport.

Since Bar TV has come online this season covering every pathways game, I don't think I have missed watching one game of our clubs in Harold Matts, SG Ball, Flegg & NSW Cup this season so have a fair handle of how each player has performed & progressed.

Somehow I manage family & work as well lol
I don’t reckon I’m alone, but, I love your effort, passion and fair minded, with just a touch of Tiger bias, reports on all of the lower grades. Thanks.

News up on the Gold Coast is the Dogs want Tino aswell. We used to rib the Roosters about the sombrero, but if the Dogs sign Tino the N.R.L are surely taking the piss.
They have a sombrero big enough for Gus's fat over inflated head so they have heaps of $$ and 3rd party deals to buy whomever they wish.
The powers that be are more scared of Gould than they are of Uncle Nick now that he's beyond geriatric.

I agree with your point, but we have also seen what can happen when the forwards try to play the ball too quickly this year - Pole as an example... He's dropped the ball or had sloppy play the balls on multiple occassions...

But there has to be a middle ground.. so you're right..

I am trying to remember heighno , he was always quick to his feet wasn't he? I wonder why it's not translating with guys like Terrell

I would suggest that ther R360 guys have a very specific criteria for selecting players. They cannot ford to ‘happy to just field teams’ as they have to have a competition that is strong enough to draw viewers from the traditional rugby competitions. If that does not happen it will fall over - especially with the European audience.

The criteria at the moment sits on rugby experience, either at schoolboy level or at Senior. To understand the lack of knowledge re league players in the rest of the world, the current Argentinian coach ( who played 5/8) was given a tape by Cheika on Andrew John’s are asked for his thoughts. The first response was I have never heard of him. Guys like Manu have some ‘presence’ due to their Japanese experience.

It was interesting hearing Waughs thoughts on R360 the other day.

Not to sure GNR, heaps of players take unders to stay togeather as a squad. Problems start when one refuses to. As with what happened at Manly when Watmough and others left when Cherry Evans refused to sign for unders when the bulk of the rest of the squad did to stay togeather. Other thing is if you get one brother offside it could affect others. There are positives though.

I don't think they have the luxury of being too picky initially... And I think they can afford to throw cash around.. Thats just my opinion.. but time will tell..

Where did Waugh discuss r360?

At this stage they have no TV deal so limited to what the financial backers will put in!

Waugh expressed some thoughts here!

It is interesting that they are in discussions with R360
