Jahream Bula #269

Joey Manu as far as I know is signed for this season to play Yawnion but as far as I know is free to play rugby league next year, turns 30 mid year.

I wonder what sort of money and length of deal he would be willing to accept to play full back.

I think he could be a great proposition for a couple of years, but would most likely want a long deal and pretty big dollars.

Drinkwaters price is a bit of a game chnger tbh, albeit from a very desperate club
I rate them about equal....so our alleged $850k long term probably aint enuff to incentivise him to sign

Three desperate clubs around really …Dragons, PNG and Perth …

I would always take the younger guy if they were equal

Would be great if Bula re-signs but for once, were in a good position where if he does leave I don't think it would break us. Benji, along with senior players have changed our culture and players would want to play for him.

And on the plus side, no more Isaac Moses involvement in the club would be nice.

It would also appear crazy that Bula would leave at this time of his career with how well the team are gelling and how he is fitting in.

I would not bend the salary cap out of shape just for Bula if he doesn't want what we are offering good luck to him elsewhere

Perth and the DragQueens would pay alot more then us

I’m talking specifically about the other guy saying the club option being “ridiculously expensive “ I don’t agree with that…. The Tigers have made there longer term offer already …looks like they aren’t budging on that …

Moses is still around with a few younger players …Sukkar is one … he gets results for players so they are always gunna have to deal with him .

I expect Bula to sign a deal elsewhere this offseason for 2028… he will be a free agent November 1 … Our club has put their best deal forward already and that has been rejected by him
And that's why we signed Attard [19 yrs] and now Tino [21 yrs] And still looking!
Smart management to plan for Bula's replacement should he hit the highway.
It's dragged on too long for someone who wants to stay. Time for Bula to make a call.
The difference in after tax dollars can't be that much to go to another club on a lower trajectory. Or players/coaches that don't swear?
But as I have said before, WT have set the dollar offer and time frame and are sticking to it. And I applaud their stance. Moses is being Moses----time for Bula to decide.

Disagree. We have a production line south west and plenty coming through, and limited first grade spots, and a team on the up. Simply set a standard , if your a IM client then your not eligible for the tigers.

Bula would be a huge loss. I don’t think he would be easily replaceable as much as people say

This hot form is the best thing to happen to our club in this current scenario and in general of course.. I think if we were losing he’d be odds on to leave tomorrow

Just think its highly unusual to offer a one year option that is LESS than the medium term option offer..it steers him to one year...why wldnt u as the Drinkwater signing suggests mid range fullbacks
are worth a cool $1mill the days
And Bula has more upside than Drinkwater,so no incentive to commit medium /long term

He is a fine player of great potential. The type of player who could come from nowhere into our NRL team.

If Bula does leave do you think Brooks could be ready for season 28 at fullback with two off season's under his belt ?

If this is Bula's last year here I would extend skeleton ASAP play Turuva at fullback next year and see what falls out of the trees sounds like there could be as many as 3 potential fullbacks to start season 28 with

He needs more time and experience in the lower grades and I'm sure the coaching team will have a succession plan in place if required.

Is he worth a million, ha, tell him he's dreaming unless you're a desperate footy team.
I think this could be the issue with the Bula deal, Moses is probably expecting us to pay desperate team money and we are paying what we think he is worth to a team that is at the top of the ladder 😎

Bula is not close to the value bracket of the top players in that 900k range. For context, Harry Grant and Crichton are reportedly on about $850k through to the end of 2027. Burton, Carrigan and Liam Martin are around $750k through to the end of 2027.

It is also getting harder to sell the “paying for potential” argument. This is his fourth season and he has not developed enough to justify that sort of number. Maybe he improves. Maybe he doesn’t. But if we pay him big money we have to accept that this version of Bula might be the one we are locking in.

That said, if the club rates him now at around $800k (fair), but truly believes in him that he can go to another level, and the deal only blows out by another $100k then just pay it.
100k won't cause serious cap issues, and it is worth it if only to keep the team settled and not let this become a season-impacting distraction.

Look, Bula is not a star right now. He is probably a 3 out of 5. If there is a younger option in the wings who is cheaper now but the club believes has a higher ceiling and the cap space saved helps land a genuine top player elsewhere, then it is prudent for the club to weigh that up and arguably reckless not to.
