LIVE GAME Round 14 v the Panthers

Live Game Discussion
One thing I do agree with, regarding the latter comments, is that Benji has made lots of head scratching team selections recently. In yesterday's game, Geyer on an edge Makasini in the centres and, before that, picking Tavana ahead of Laulilii, refusing to select Skelton, starting Seyfarth, rewarding Toa's rubbish play with first team selection and, finally, not giving Latu Fainu a proper starting opportunity. All of this must be puzzling and deflating to the rest of the team. Also, either Benji is becoming too soft and nurturing again or the team is getting tired of his voice. Can't think of any other reason for yesterday's debacle. Would a Bellamy or Bennett coached team lose by that margin? We seem to be getting good at getting flogged by 60.
Benji still has so much to learn about coaching. Penrith have been using the same method of shortening our line in defence, with the middle’s carefully running into gaps from the PTB or the back rowers breaking from the scrum running through the line.
It only took a split second to put our defence on their heels and keep our FB guessing.
Our boys would have had more confidence going into the game if they knew what to expect. To me it looked like they had no idea.

For every fan who says pick one player there is another saying he is useless. After a loss every coach has picked the wrong team according to a percentage of the fans. Benji or any losing coach for that matter is never going to escape that criticism.
We were embarrassed yesterday by a superior footy team and club/ system. We are making up the numbers and are still a long way from dragging ourselves out of the cellar with or without Benji. It is still a deep rooted club issue and we were reminded of that again yesterday.

There are about 5-6 players in the squad that seem to me to be pretty friendless amongst the fan base…

Although Benji gives a player like Charlie Murray a go and people here love it …before the game anyway ,..

I wouldn't like to be in CEO Shaun Mielekamp's shoes. How does he hold onto our current sponsorship portfolio? Let alone attempt to try to increase private investment in our club. Three of our last 4 thrashings have been by fellow Sydney clubs in Manly, Penrith, and the Sharks. The NRL sponsorship market in Sydney is the toughest in the game. How does Shaun convince our sponsors to stay on board when there are other Sydney based clubs who are clearly light years ahead of us?

The only silver lining I can see is that we didn't have the 4.00pm free to air Channel 9 game yesterday. Imagine any young Tigers fan being subjected to that and then having to go to school on Tuesday. We don't do ourselves any favours.

Did you read the point I was responding to … “ the NRL has a problem …” not the Wests Tigers … the NRL… im saying the NRL doesn’t really have a problem because they can just tell the referees to stop blowing 6 agains
Sorry meant to have a crack at you Tom.

Just so disappointed in the weak effort yesterday.

Madden is a great example of fan critique - club/ Benji bagged for signing him as depth at the beginning of the year. Forced to use him and he becomes the player we need, and after the last few games back to useless.
Wayne Bennett's classic line comes to mind

I remember saying about Madden after the first few games to see what happens when the opposition get a good look at him and start gameplanning ..

I like some things about his game but he is what he always has been …a fringe first grader …

Luke Keary's analysis has impressed me this year. He speaks honestly and has a feel for the game. At halftime he gave Jerome Luai a serve saying 'Jerome has not brought any success to the Tigers. He hasn't brought anything to this club. Glad someone has said it. He needs to be dropped honestly.
I like what he appears to have done to our culture, but performance wise he’s beginning to look like Adam Blair or I-Pap 2.0. Why do these players come here and play down to a shadow of themselves? It’s hard to say. Is it us or is it them.

A full strength Tigers team can compete
Otherwise a weakened side needs the opponent to play poorly for the tigers to have any chance
In addition to the above Gal (I know not a brain surgeon) identified how big an impact missing Brailey is having on the sharks ( that’s one player)
Tigers are currently missing
1st choice centre
1st choice half
1st choice lock
1st choice 2nd rower
1st choice wingers are playing in the centres
and only just got back our
1st choice fullback
1st choice hooker

THE ‘SQUAD’ CAN’T COMPETE against teams under these circumstances, unless the opposition plays poorly/woeful.
Can’t expect miracles at this time

I posted these earlier, it’s not saying I’m happy with the result just the challenges that are hard to overcome

Someone else identified the roosters had 12 rep players from the the last 12 months playing for them this weekend

I think Penrith had about 8-9 rep players in their team this weekend

Tigers probably had abt 4-5 reps

It’s the roster, and more particularly the roster depth that is letting the everyone down

Players that ran out for the Tigers on the W/E would not even get close to playing at these other teams even with injuries

Tigers can cover maybe 1or 2 injuries to first choice players, not the current circumstances

Once again not happy with the result, just looking at the reality

It says more about the quality of the squads around them - or lack there of in our case. IPap worked his butt off here for little reward. Consistent losing will break most players.
Brooks and Stefano played finals in their first year of footy away from this club - not because of them as an individuals. We crucify individuals who we know can play, while other clubs know that they are not the problem and are happy to take them off our hands to enhance the strength of their own squads.

no it’s not common sense at all mate …

We gave up 52 against the Sharks and 44 against the Storm and your boy defended in the middle in those games …what happened there ?

If you had another brain it would be lonely mate,,,
52-10 and 44-16 are nowhere near as bad as 68-0. They carved us up through the middle yesterday, the likes of which don't even compare to those other games, I'm honestly surprised it wasn't 82-0. Go and watch those other two games then watch the game yesterday, it's not as simple as "look, big score and other big score, that mean same." Probably the worst defensive performance by a forward pack in NRL history. The difference between those games and yesterday was losing by 26 and 40 more points. You're also failing to consider I mentioned we probably would have lost 32-0 instead of 68-0 if Twal was playing, doesn't change the fact that he still makes a massive difference and you have to have a low IQ to not realise that.

Less points but much less quality opposition

Yeah I don't know about that, Cronulla are still a quality side, they'll definitely be there around 5th or 6th come the end of the season. And Melbourne are starting to hit some form again. That defensive performance was still drastically worse than any of those other two games especially through the middle. You just have to understand what you're watching I guess.

You “don’t know “?

Come on man … Penrith are the class of the competition .. the Storm won’t make the 8 and the Sharks will scrape in .. do you watch the games ?
