Ashley Klein gambling Problems

If the NRL doesn’t stand down Klein, then he should step down himself. I can see this ending badly.
Every journalist in the country is all over this and it detracts from the games integrity.
100% mate.

The whole corruption thing is something I always wanted to believe didn’t exist in rugby league but there are just too many moments now where it just seems like money has switched hands.

This is a disgrace if he referees this game and doesn’t just speak volumes negatively for him, but for PVL and the whole apparent Intregrity Unit of the NRL.

Integrity Unit - what a farce.

Popcorn please, the new series of "The Adventures of Klown and his Short Whistle" is getting really entertaining.

I think we should ask the HBG to step in and force the NRL to review their governance structure!
The NRL's position will be that there's nothing to see here, just as it has been since they became aware of his gambling addiction and the possibility of corruption.

I have no reason to dispute the thing that he betted on horses etc and not NRL, however, if he lost $400k overall, my query is where was the betting taking place? How much TAB vs bookies? If bookies have their hooks into you favours are demanded.

C'mon people it's all speculation to this point. And the relationship between Howes and Kleine should be a good thing, right? The only possibly doubtful mark against Howes is that she has been offering advice to the ALP which could be partly the reason the country is on the road to communism? LOL

He should be banned ASAP , he would be stupid to bet with his own a/c , but who’s to say he aiding it through a third person , the NRL are walking on thin ice , by letting him been a ref , if it ever is uncovered that he has been betting on games , what a mess that would be

My son came up with another way he could have gone , once in debt with a bookie , he doesn’t need to bet , all he needs to do is blow x amounts of penalties, sent x amount to the bin , or sent ponga off when the bunker said sin bin , again NRL leaving themselves open to all sorts

He may never have made a call for a financial gain, but the question has to be asked if he was in a fit mental state at the time of his addiction. Anyone with a major addiction will tell you it totally dominates your thought process 24/7

I actually wonder if regular personality, IQ, reference, drug and alcohol testing is done on refs. Do they still do background checks, police checks etc like we do for new hires?

So much has to go wrong usually for someone to be $400k in debt.

I assume refs get a new contract every year so there probably needs to be a stricter policy.

Lastly, I also wonder if NRL does terminate him somehow, would Klein have a case against NRL regarding unfair dismissal or even discrimination?

There are just so many layers to this that it warrants a much bigger discussion as the role of the refs in the NRL unlike any other sport is so gray. They dictate the 10m and the ruck speed. The team with the best ruck speed wins..
