LIVE GAME Round 17 versus Knights

Live Game Discussion
Once again our lack of finesse in the attacking area failed us,apart from that the effort was decent. Our hard working forwards deserve a huge wrap despite our best 2 being beat in the last try (May and Seyfarth).
Exactly it. The effort was excellent and has been all year. I haven’t been able to say that about a tigers team for over a decade. The fact is, our red zone attack is the worst in the competition. It’s a been a problem for us all year. We have dominated so many first halves this year only to not be able to convert territory and possession into a suitable number of points. And then we lose at the back end. For the second week in a row we had to use an interchange player for an outside back injury which doesn’t help.

That’s fair but we bashed them in the forwards. We created the poor play from the Knights. Our attack was poor. That’s the game. Api had his worst game of game of the year. May played too long as did Bunty. It’s an injury issue for us which is my point it’s not a lack of effort. We need to pay attention to how good Sam Fainu and KPP are we will struggle to beat anyone without these players.
I agree it’s not lack of effort. It is lack of talent in the depth players who just cannot bang with NRL players.
That said, we had our first choice spine today and they came up with very little in a game where the opposition failed to complete 13 sets, handing us great field position all day long.
That was a bad loss.

With a few key additions Twal, KPP, Sam Fainu, Averillo and a couple more with luck the team will resemble a proper first grade squad next year. We are better when at full strength which is a positive. Thegg th have to sort out the roster we suffer every year after mid season.

I agree. Im certain he doesn't see the problem. It could possibly be fixed of our pack was at full strength and we played Latu lock and actually used him as a first receiver. But with an understrength pack we cant put him in the middle.
Mentioned the other day,
I’d play Luai at lock - or at hooker when needed.
I think he can defend well enough.

What have we got to lose?

Apparently thats what Shuster, Tupou and Dunster are all about

Latu has been totally wasted in the way he has been played all season. he does'nt know if he is Arthur or Martha. He has absolutely no confidence when he goes on. Not prepared to make a run as if he fears being replaced if not carrying out coach's instructions. He needs to be given free rein to play eyes up football. we all know he is talented but being stifled by Benji's total wasted tactics. I know he has had injuries in the past.

Now thats an interesting take on that game if ever ive heard one lol. Ridiculous statement.

They gave us so much opportunity it is simply embarrassing what we did with that possession. We are the only team who loses to Newcastle today.
Did you ever consider that maybe we rattled them? Why does everyone simply assume that because a team in the top four gets beaten by a team out of the eight, the simple reason is that they must have been off their game. The whole team. They win how many games straight, then mysteriously drop their bundle against a weaker side. Every time WT win, the commentators can't wait to tell us how poorly the opposition played.
Newcastle had ample opportunities to win that game comfortably in the second half. They couldn't do it. Maybe the pressure put them off?
Ask Penrith why they lost yesterday. Maybe the Cowboys were simply better.

Amen.
Bludger of a game, either side could’ve won. We’re definitely a confidence team. Disappointed to lose this week and last, but we’re still in the fight, despite all the injuries. Hopefully Twal & Samuela back next week.

Onwards & Upwards

Had a beer with a mate to watch the game today and we thought there wasn't much chance of a win.

Half time we looked at each other and said hope we don't lose this in the last 5 minutes like the old days, sickening isn't it.

Why do we keep trying Geyer he's not a good luck charm and not big enough in tandem with Seyfarth, Api ordinary.

All the Sukkar knockers need to have a closer look getting better every week as is Bunty.

Centres are still or weakest link. Turuva is wasted there , he needs to be at 2 and Skelton at 5. Choose centres after that, and I can see the same drums are beating for Makasini as they were for Tommy Talau years ago.
I assume next year that Averillo and May will be first choice centres but as for now weve got Herbert, Makasini and maybe Fainu, and that’s about it.

Which is another reason why Tupou is supposedly being courted.

That game was a punish to watch.

In my opinion this was the most disappointing loss for the year. We had everything to play for, Newcastle were crap, yet our spine produced their worst performance of the year (maybe AD gets a pass mark). To think we still could have won it if not for the performance of Geyer and Makasini, though I don't blame them, that's on Benji. Gutted

bloody benji wants to play the long game he says

Which means just build pressure down their end

The problem is we can’t score down there bc we don’t run shape bc we don’t practice it bc we practice “the long game” which is just building pressure

Like what is the point of you can’t run a simple shape play?

We had all the ball today down their end

Slippery grass

Not once did they try and cut back in the inside with a steaming back rower

It was just forward forward forward then sideways with like terrible terrible passes that looked under sixes

Our attack is Diabolical in the opposition 20

API looks up like what is the play

Then he dished it and adam can’t pass or setup a block play - not once has he done it

He is better off just running but then that means bula never gets good shape ball at the back of ADs side

So that leave Jarome side and he crabs or does some lateral pass with no shape

Honestly the only time ad and Jarome look good all year running shape is when Jarome takes the 7 and as sweeps around the back

They’re absolutely useless otherwise

Better still, he plays Latu at half and the player better suited to the lock role or centre in either of those positions whilst we are short there. Maybe we can get by with the current positioning when we have Samuela and Twal back on deck, though regardless, I would rather have a proper halfback, even Madden.

Most depressing performance I can remember in a very long time. There to be won, knights were awful and yet again our big players didnt step up. One I think we will really regret when we miss the 8 by one or two wins
oh I think we'd actually regret the mid-year run of 52-10, 44-16, 46-18, 16-22 and 68-0.

Your thinking is all backwards. Despite the terrible game today it was there to be won, and if you give us the final 10 minutes again we could definitely have won.

The first thing to get right is to be in every game, every week, down to the end. That's how you play consistent finals footy. As soon as you start having blowouts, history shows you don't win comps.

Pretty sure that Luai turned Sione back inside once. Still, I pretty well agree with the rest of it, with Jarome even having to move to the right to get more ball in their 20 from Api, drawing the defence to create an overlap that others weren't able to capitalise on.
