Im just curious though, i know the players are towing the company line thats theyre fine with him cause its just business, i know Benji and the club are towing the company line that its all business. I just cant help but think that either the relationship with the players or more so with Benji has soured since Jerome signed wirh P.N.G. Hence why the club are just cutting him loose now. Anyone else think thats a possability?
Did the relationship sour , or was it that obviously once the PNG decision was made the club had to change tact and who they were building around . Because really him leaving 1-2 years earlier than expected totally changed the way the club moved forward .
I mean even right down to play styles . Luai is a jack in the box , use his feet type to create indecision in the line . Latu is a power runner , who uses his very wyick over first 10 to push through and then has silky hands to get ball moving . And Javon has amazing vision and deception when there’s options through runners - nearly always taking the tight option .
You go from a team who is all about using footwork and second phase to create indecision and having guys capitalising that to a team who uses smart play and making the right choices to expose defences .
I’ve always preferred the latter , really like most of the nrl, as it’s more reliable , but if you don’t have guys with great vision it can be an exercise in futility . Whereas a system built around Romeys style can die a slow death if you can’t get guys biting and moving out of position .
The clubs was around Romey and his style . And with how ineffective it’s been this year , I think rightfully the club has made the decision to move on and I’m assuming the gameplan will change with it .
It’s not personal and if Romey is taking it that way , then he needs his head read .
Because how do you convince really 2 grades of fulltime/ part time football players to play a certain style built around a player who isn’t gonna be there for them long term .
and from a trust / loyalty perspective - Romey deciding to not take up his options , broke the social contract between club and player . No one begrudges him , but immediately by doing what he did he voided any claim for loyalty IMO. Ie. the club had every right to pivot away from the Jahrome luai show as soon as possible . Does it inconvenience Jahrome . I’m sure it does .
But he needs to see that the whole club was built around him … and now the club has to build around its future sooner than desired re. Heyward , Latu , Javon and Bula .
