Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

are you a Skelton fan or not, this post says you are ,but bugger me a few pages back here or another thread you were against his retention - Love you 2 an expect no reply u attention seeker you.
We ideally need an upgrade on Skelton, someone who can play wing or centre and apply genuine pressure for an NRL starting position.
Tavana is not an upgrade on Skelton and Herbert as our main back up right centre does not fill me with confidence.

think Jeral would man up in the scrum, he has the build attitude, for 20mins

With the Mann and Brailey signings and the Frizell rumours its pretty clear the club sees addressing the gap in depth, experience and professionalism as a priority. I prefer these type of signings rather tha perennial cup players looking for an opportunity.
Signing Frizell will be as successful as the signing of his former fellow Knight prop, Klemmer.

There's got to be a young prop somewhere ready to fully embrace a solid 40-60min in a NRL. The Roosters seem.to pull one out of their arse every second season.

Usually I'd agree, but the current squad lacks old heads. Frizell has impressed me this final series.

We would then have good middle depth. May, Pole, Twal, Sione, Seyfarth,Hunt and Frizell.

In reality, 1 or 2 of those miss out each week.

When our 2026 Player of the Year in Twal and our most wholehearted player throughout 2026 in Seyfarth have both thrown their full support behind Doueihi, I think that indicates there was good reason for his actions.
But our fans with no idea about the situation, other than what they hear and see in the media, think they know better.
The fact twal was deemed our best player is an embarrassment and an indictment on the appalling state of our roster

Some very good points.
We are be a much lesser team without Doueihi’s tackle busting and line breaking ability.
It takes away from his strengths when he is playing at 7, hence his best games in 2026 were when Jock Madden wore the 6 jersey, but was clearly playing as our dominant play making 7.
Correct in saying we have 2 young and highly talented halves, but it’s very risky and unlikely to work if we throw them both in the halves together at NRL level to start the 2027 season.
They ideally need an experienced halve alongside them to give them the extra time and experience they require.
I love how we have a core of supporters who love voicing their opinion that they think we should simply kick Doueihi to the curb, but have no idea how we replace him between now and the start of tbe 2027 season.
It's absolutely laughable that anyone who follows this club thinks that Doeuihi should be a senior player to guide our young halves. He is not a 5/8 or a 7, he's not a lock or a centre. He's a lazy, selfish player who only looks after himself. He's a luxury we can't afford. He has no place in our starting 13. With Mann joining he has no spot in our top 17.
Given his salary and attitude we could much better use his place in the team. Madden is a far better mentor to our young halves, and that's saying something.

no we don't. Herbert's basically spot 30 on the roster. in years' past that spot has been reserved for players like Will Craig.

currently for depth in the outside backs we have Herbert, Saukuru and Makasini in the 30 with Tavana and Attard on development contracts.

one more is absolutely required, particularly with the six-man bench.
He's not spot 30. He played more than half the season this bloody year! He should be spot 37 instead he's in the top 30

He's in some illustrious company. Great signing.

Well not to be a Debbie Downer about that list, but those first 3 signed to us - Te'o left without achieving a whole lot, Kahu left without kicking a ball in anger (and never amounted to anything) and Marion Seve only got game time as a Storm backup, also getting injured a whole bunch and retiring this year.

Cody Walker has been offered to other clubs via his management (Danny Weidler).

we need to be at the table.
I'm super suspect about injuries for Cody Walker. He'll be 37 start of next year and had an ordinary run of leg injuries 2026, including that last calf injury going down untouched, prior to that hamstrings.

There's a fair few older guys going around but once they start doing leg injuries at that age, I get suspect.

Maybe they think Dunster can do the same job at a cheaper price....

Depending on how he pulls up.

Different to Klemmer on a few counts. Klemmer was brought in as a big name prop on big name prop money. He was ok for us but his output wasnt what we paid for. Frizell would be on a middle range salary and can play multiple positions in the forward pack.

Frizell on 1-2 years is pretty good business in addressing the depth and experience problems.

That’s your opinion and as you know, I agree with your opinion more often than not.
As for AD I believe he is a much more valued and respected team mate than many of our fans like to give him credit for.
Don’t let the reasoning behind why he missed the Raiders game get in the way of a good story.
He has since admitted he done the wrong thing, apologised and I’m sure he aims to make up for it with his attitude and on field performance throughout the 2027 season.
He is not the first and will not be the last man who has ever made a bad decision.
I believe he is a good quality running 5/8 and when you have the likes of Herbert, playing injured, Bula playing injured and Turuva playing injured on your outside, it’s a much better option to run the ball yourself more often than not. I certainly don’t want a 5/8 who just shovels the ball to someone else for the sake of it, a good 5/8 needs to be an extremely good and dangerous ball runner and that is what AD is.
As I keep saying, I believe the emerging Javon Andrews is all class and has a higher ceiling than Doueihi, This being the case it should create great competition as the 2027 season progresses and similarly the experienced Jock Madden will keep Latu Fainu on his toes and ensure he is playing well on a regular basis, otherwise he will be ready to step in and take his spot at halfback.
Is Latu a better halfback or 5/8? I believe he is definately at his best as a left sided 5/8 with a game controlling halfback as his 7, so that will also need to be considered, but I think our plan will be to try and turn Latu into a genuine 7.
I don’t see our halves being a problem, providing they have willing ball runners and strong defenders around them.
If our halves don’t work out, we can simply look to recruit a genuine 7 for 2028 and beyond.
