Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

2 of those games we copped a sinbin in which was the only time we looked like leaking any points & we had players missing too

the warriors game you left out was a great win over there
Agree the warriors game was a great win.

As for the sinbinnings, well Eels was one of them. They scored the first two tries of the game before a binning had occurred. Tigers fought hard and scored the next 3, but only after an injury meant they had to reshuffle their backline. Yes Eels then scored two during the sinbin time to take the lead.

The fact that the last 20minutes, which included the 10minutes of bin time was against a patched together side missing 3 of their backs that started as well as their regular fullback, the sinbin shouldn't be an excuse.

Similarly with Raiders, were down by 4 at halftime. Not sure the bin hurt us as much as the injury (on top of their outs before the game) hurt them. Raiders notably didn't score any points when they were playing 13 against 12, or any points after. So can't use this as an example of a binning resulting in the points being leaked like you can suggest for the Eels game.

Well, you should care. You don’t just chase marquee players for the sake of it. Especially not in a position you already have sufficient depth in. We’ve been talking up Haywood for the last 6-12 months. Some have floated that he’s a future captain. Why block his path? It’s a 7 we are in need of. Not a 9.
I care about the tigers being as good a team as possible.

Grant its one of the best players in the comp, period; not a marquee for the sake of it.

Successful clubs make these moves and win premierships. Roosters moved Pearce on and won 2, brought in Robson and DCE and won it.

Well, that and dodgy TPA's, but you get the point!

Could also add if you like Warriors were missing one centre whilst their other was filling in for their missing backrower. They also fielded 2 halves that had never played together before. And probably off their game a little, most likely due to thinking they simply needed to turn up for the win.
Oh and if sinbins are excuse they lost a centre to the bin.
But yes, I left it off because I agree it was a great win that Tigers looked genuinely classy in.

Harry’s not winning us a comp without a halfback.

The raiders only scored points when we were down a man

Again, we were missing players too for that game and didn’t score any points during their sinbin so the win had merit. It’s swings & roundabouts stuff

Didn’t api say he would be open to finishing his career in Perth, let him have his payday there and bring in Harry, there’s no guarantee Haywood becomes anything close to Harry Grant
He was doing a promo for the beer, food, footy festival at North Sydney oval around the time Perth got accepted back into the Nrl. He was put on the spot by the MC. The way in which he answered would have made a politician proud.

Actually, yes you are right. Apologies, I forgot that Martin played on before leaving the field after halftime.
I agree the Warriors win had merit. As I said I thought we looked genuinely classy in that game.
I in fact believe all the wins had merit to some extent (perhaps not the Eels one, both teams looked like spoon contenders in that game). I think it shows that with a bit of luck and the right attitude there is a side here that should be competing most weeks and certainly capable running about middle of the pack.
I however think (some of) the talk about how well we started has been drastically overstated. We genuinely only looked classy in the one game. Looked awful in another and about average in most.

Even the Warriors we weren't great the first 30 minutes
And the Warriors were down to 12 with sin binning of Pompey

I actually thought the first round bye helped us in a way. We hit the ground running with enthusiasm and were very fit.
We won games with fitness and application and enthusiasm.
Many clubs warmed to the season and got better and fitter after 5 or 6 games whereas we looked like we peaked early.
Robbo and the Roosters are experts at timing their season to peak at the end not the beginning.
We started to get jaded and injuries kicked in when other teams were hitting their straps.
Then throw in a few substandard subs and some internal dramas on top of more injuries- bingo we can’t handle the intensity and pressure of weekly NRL especially now that the rest of the teams are starting to click and we started to lose a few.
