    Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The PNG government has a significant history of corruption - the presence of a NRL team won't stop a future government selling out if the price is right. Wait until one of the major teams lose stars they howling will be deafening.

I never mentioned FIFA or the IOC so your comments are ridiculous. It's $600M dollars that could be better spent elsewhere rather than on a sport in a 3rd world country where corruption and violence are endemic . From 1972 to today, Australia has provided more than A$20 billion in aid to Papua...

Government's can change whatever legislation they want - and will do if there's enough public interest in doing so. I'm don't think that $600M of Australian taxpayers money to subsize a sport is good value. If they want to subsidize Australian sport then give the funds to the AOC not some...

So we pay him $900K and take up a spot to do exactly what he's done so far ??

And then they go "do it" and what's the fall back. A player who doesn't want to be here on $900K for the year or we look foolish when we don't, just let him go if he's not interested in staying and invest elsewhere.

IF we "we release him at the end of this season and don’t take up our option" there is no contractual obligation on either party, and they all go their separate ways. We can't do anything if he signs elsewhere as we have no leverage to use. How do you play hardball if you don't have leverage to...

If you read the press release Jack Bird was released from the final year of his contact by mutual agreement - he was not "sold" as the club received no funds for his everrtual signature with the Super League club. The best you get a a bit of cap space to use

You can't "sell him now, when we can get something for him." - he has a contract. If he goes I won't lamenting his leaving as he gives us nothing more than a serviceable fullback (when he wants to be) whose value isn't $900K.

The price that they have to pay in who and for how long, is still to be decided, so I guess he's not playing until that's done. Clubs will be a bit stronger (but not the Tigers) now after the Lomax issue and not just buckle if someone wants out. If you have the contract you have the upper hand,

Maybe, but unlike the NRL 3rd party contracts don't have to be approved by anyone and have no bearing on what the Force or RA will pay. The Force is owned by Andrew Forest who had an assessed worth of over $30B - he'll be taken care of whilst he plays there.

Maybe not - their owner has a bit of spare change to fling around for the Force.

Nah - there'll always be a player who takes the field in he No 1 jumper the only question is their ability to play the position.
