Geeze look at that halves pairing, the traitor Morrison and an aging Ellery

Yeah couldnt get my head around both halves…..both bayssari and gillett were probably a centre/fullback really thought Morrison could have been anything and Ellery celery was good for both Balmain and Wests.

Don't remember Ellery playing Hooker

Someone might have the correct team listing in their archives but from memory Ellery would have been lock and Darren Senter hooker, looked at the date and thought it looked familiar!.

Yeah I think there are a few typos there….

IMO our lineup this week is rather forgettable and I reckon both the Tigers and Magpies of 1996 would give them a touch up.

A win this week would be one of the bigger upsets of the season. But hey, Bulldogs won the premiership in 1996 and our underdog side still got the win that week, so anything is possible!

Quite a few from both teams made it to Wests Tigers too. Oh Gillett, i loved his charge down try vs Parra late in 2000.

Manly won the GF in '96.
Hopefully the Tigers can pull off a fantastic upset win against the Dogs today like we did against them in the opening game of 2002 I think it was, Terry Hill had a barnstorming game and we beat the Dogs at the Showground in heatwave conditions. We were paying $10 for the win that day from memory.

The Maggies won that game 40-32 from memory.

Do you remember Benge? The 5/8? I can't recall him at all.

I remember the name. Only played about a dozen first grade games.

What about that kid Willie something who played halfback for the Maggie's in '96? Wonder what happened with him? He played a handful of games and then disappeared - skinny kid with the headgear.

Wilie Newton. Great kick on him looked like we picked him up from the centrelink line.

I just google him. He actually made his debut in the game v norths that Willis kicked the field goal from halfway. The look on JT's fafe was priceless.

:roll Yeah that's him! Weighed about 40 kilo's, had the mullet and looked like he should've been playing in a flanno with a pack of Winnie Reds up the sleeve!

On that Magpies-Bears game, the week following that game they took Andrew Willis out to the same spot he kicked the field goal to get him to try and kick it again. Had about a dozen shots and didn't land one.

Best Magpies game i ever attended.

There were a few guys we had over the years who would make a promising cameo and disappear. Back in the day, unless you were the ABC game, you'd have to rely on the paper or Rugby League Week. I'd read about some hot new half that we had (I remember Richard Smith getting raves after we beat Norths by 30), but they'd be dropped by the time we got our next TV game.
