The amount of compensation they owe us drops by the day…started off at $200k, then $175k now its $150k...by next Saturday we'll be paying them

The fact it drops at all is a huge mistake on our behalf. If we are entitled to money, they have to pay or Benji doesn't play. We should be standing firm rather than giving them fleixiblity.

Unless that is, its 150k + a % of gate receipts etc… An arrangement like that would still work favourably for us.

I tell u one thing…...I will be looking forward to our game against them.

Licking the lips in anicipation......run right at him boys!!!

One things for sure. Benji won't be named this afternoon. Price has already said as much. Matty Johns is a buffoon.

One training session and no clearance from the NRL. Doesn't mean he won't play on the weekend but the Dragons are trying to wriggle out of the fee.

Could the money be used to pay for Sheens? His hearing vs the Tigers is set for December

unless it's been answered earlier, I'd be using it towards Tedesco. I will be filthy if we don't end up going for the whole amount too.

theres a 7 million grant by the NRL. the whole salary cap will pretty much always be spent. This money is just money, not an extra 200k on our cap. Irrelevant for Tedesco's contract. We could use it to give 200k more to him but that would take 200k from our cap which is exactly what the club doesn't want to do atm

Wests Tigers and the St George Illawarra Dragons have today reached an agreement that will result in Benji Marshall being free to take to the field for the Dragons this weekend.

Wests Tigers CEO Grant Mayer thanked his Dragons counterpart Peter Doust for his openness during the process and said that the club looks forward to seeing Marshall back on the field.

“I’d like to thank Peter for his willingness to work with Wests Tigers to reach an agreement that was acceptable for both clubs,” said Mayer. “First and foremost Wests Tigers are very happy that Benji is back in the NRL and look forward to seeing him play for the Dragons.

“We have the upmost respect for Benji, he’s a Life Member of Wests Tigers and played 201 games for the club over 11 seasons. Benji will always be a part of this Club no matter which team, or code, he plays,” he said. “We have been consistent with our messaging since Benji announced his desire to return to Rugby League, this negotiation was about protecting the sanctity of the contract which Benji had with Wests Tigers for the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

“The agreement we’ve reached with the Dragons is not onerous or over the top, and we believe is a fair commercial set of terms for a marquee player such as Benji to be taking to the field for a rival club,” said Mayer. “Moving forward I believe our game has reached a stage where transfer fees will become the norm, we see it working in other professional sports and given that Rugby League is now a billion dollar business the time has come for it to become common place.”

/thread.. see you in a few weeks bunji.

I wonder if it will be too much for the Saints and Benji to thank the Tigers for being reasonable and allowing Benji to play this weekend

We will probably get 20K more people turn up to the tigers vs dragons games which is our home game later in the year.

Benji mentioned how highly he rated the Saints' back 3\. That's all he needs. A hop and a skip to wrong foot the defence, a cut out ball to Morris, a little flick behind the back to Dugan, a chip kick for Nightingale. All the magic coming from the touch footy kid's miraculous ability to step through the line. Benji doesn't need momentum from the forwards. He's Benji freaking Marshall and he's written an article all about it..

Quoting myself cos that's how I roll. I think I upset happy with that comment.

I was making fun of the idea that Benji is so awesome that all he needs is a backline that can keep up, and he can turn the momentum of a game, even when the forwards are getting beaten all over the park. There may have been some truth in that once upon a time, but it's ancient history.

Seeing St George against Parra on Saturday, I think Benji is right back where he was at the end of 2012\. A weak forward pack that can't take a trick, a makeshift halves combo a backline that's pretty damn good, if only you could create the opportunities and another coach who's staked his career on a bit of Marshall Magic to pull them out of the hole.

My sympathies to Gareth Widdop.

Hopefully they can throw some more cash at us to take benji's GF Moltzen.
All is forgiven
